Well take a look at his 'sig list of 'mods, there isn't much left to do that will fall under $1K. Pocket that money for your h/c swaps...

Subframe connectors
LCA's w/ relocation brackets
QA1 adjustable rear shocks
Ported Throttle Body
25% Underdrive Pulley
Clutch/Stall+shift kit+transmission cooler (M6/A4)
Tune?

That should eat up $1000. You could also look into drag radials (Nitto/MT/BFG) or just get ET Streets for track duty like I did. You could always put it away to save for heads/cam ($3k in parts) or a new 9" rear ($2k+). Good luck

You could always sell the K&N FIPK and get a lid and make $200 to spend on other go fast goodies.

cam/ timing chain/ lifters/ pushrod...tune

or spray...
full on exhaust system wouldnt be a bad idea
but if you are going to continue to mod then please do yourself the favor ahead of time and buy either a 9" or a 12 bolt ....you will regret it later on if you don't!!

easy there firecracker...

What I meant is save some more for a cam and tune. At that rate just save for a nice set of matching heads. Then again your rear wont last much longer after that.

What a way to make new friends

cam - $400
pushrod - $100
oil pump - $125
adjustable timing chain - $125
titanium retainers - $100
gaskets - $100
lifters - $125
tuning - $300

That's $1400+ right there and those are absolute low prices (ie. some used parts). Not to mention upgrading the fuel system ($100 walbro pump, $300 injectors if you want to upgrade in the future, etc.). Cam isn't a $1000 job. The install will add another $400-600 at least. That's almost $2000.

Get some headers, gears, and ported throttle body and be happy. All of those should fit in the under $1k range, the gears may push it over a tiny bit if you need someone to install them. But I can guarentee you will likely see a second or slightly more off your times assuming you hook, and far better performance out of your engine.

Is the car an auto....if so gears and a stall would help out a lot.

Yep. My buddy has a 1998 Trans Am with bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, etc). He runs a 3500 (not sure the brand) with 3.73's. I've heard good things about Yank though. It is cake to launch compared to my M6. You will also need a transmission cooler and a shift kit isn't a bad idea while you're in there. Stall, transmission cooler, shift kit, gears and maybe a tune all for $100 is probably the best way to wake up an A4. If not just save up for heads/cam as mentioned above. Headers are relatively cheap too ($400-450 for Jet-Hot or $800+ for Kooks/QTP/American Racing).
