Sell the TA?
I am thinking about selling my A4 98 Trans Am and buying a 69-82 Vette. I know they are pigs but if I sell my car for about 12 or 13k and buy a vette for about 8 to 10 I could use the extra money on a little engine work. What do you guys think. My car has 72k miles on it and is in great shape. Black ZR-1 wheels, suncoast WS6 hood, kill switch, slp loudmouth exhaust.

I wouldn't EVER make that swap, but that's just me. If you think you'd rather have the vette.. go for it.
I agree with the others that've said you probably won't get $12-13k for your car. Maybe if you find somebody local, but it's pushing it.

i would say 13-14 is just fine if you got someone who doesn't know you can get them cheaper, seriously Carmax doesn't even go 8-9-10-11 any those figures low. you get someone who sees the car and says oh thats cool and goes and buys it. Now if it was us we would say oh i can get that for 8-9K

I own a '79 vette, and a '98 camaro, so i thought id put in my two cents. the camaro is faster than the stock vette. all due to technology. however, the vette is a completely different experience. its much more belligerant, and i love it for that. they really arent too much of a pig... mine weighs 3300 lbs with iron heads. you could easily get my car down to 3200 if i wanted to. handling is less nose heavy than the camaro, has a better "connected" feel on the road, and i think that ultimately, with new poly bushings, shocks, and larger rims with better tires the vette would annihalate the camaro on a road course. its really a pretty solid performer. the rear ends, trannies and drivelines are built pretty solid... with around a grand i think you can get the stocker rear to handle 1000+ hp. its a stout setup. if you check in with the CTS-V group youd find they are using a rear end replacement that is based off of the C-3 corvette..the 68-82 style that you are looking at. you could build a stout SBC for not all that much money, cheaper than doing anything similair to the ls1 group. you can also swap in an ls1 motor, and there is a tranny swap available to put a T-56 six speed in. the vette is a great platform if you want something that can handle and move. its a bit floaty feeling at 130+mph. the cons to this kind of move is that for one, you wont want to park it at walmart. or leave it somewhere that you cant see it. i always worry someone will f*ck with mine. also, spend the 10-15k its gonna take to get one in good shape. restored and well maintained. dont get a "needs work" of any kind. it will nickel and dime you to death. mines a show car quality resto, booking at close to 20,000 for a '79 that value is very rare. many, many cars were produced in '79, and id think you could find one in the 8-12 range. it still has more $$ in upkeep than my camaro does. all for all, though, if i had to choose between the camaro and the vette, id choose the vette hands down. its a completely different feeling. everything is much more no-nonesense about it. not much extra junk like electric fans, AIR, EGR, all that crap. it really has a feel thats more musclecar to it... loud, smells a touch like oil and gas, stiff clutch, long throw on the 4 spd shifter, I love it to death. feels great to drive. very recognizeable, an everyone wants rides type of car. and you can make them to outperform many newer vehicles because they are actually set up pretty good from the factory. drive one. see if you like the different feel. It WILL be more of a pleasure cruiser/occasional driver than the daily driveable f-body's. good luck !

If the T/A is a daily driver, DONT SELL IT!! I dont even wanna think about using a Vette as a daily driver. Too many chances of something BAD happening to it. I'm worried just using my 02 Hawk on the weekends. Besides, If you do end up with $2000 left over after the sale and the purchase, today that aint really alot of money bro.
