Default Spinning

Took it out today to blow it out before inspection cause it keeps coming back as not ready and I was told to run it hard to reset it.

Coming off an on ramp in 1st stuck it in a good ways and it spun thru 1st and when it hit 2nd doing 40 mph it spun again.

Does the spinning sound normal or is there a stall in the car?

Get some 315's. They'll still spin but, you know, not as much.

Im not complaining about the spinning.. it was fun. I just have spun it thru first and hit 2nd doing 40mph and it spin again and was really asking if I might of had a stall or what.

You probably just have some janky *** tires then. Unless your run'n some serious frig'n power then you shouldn't be spinning into or through 2nd. Thats just a sign that you need some new tires.

The tires still have over half the tread life left on them.

The car is stock except for k&n and some kind of exhaust set up so Im definately not making a ridiculous number of horses.

Great. I learned a new word
Good tires will help with spinning too.
The tires on my Z28 when I got it (Mastercrafts of some sort) spun like hell. And they always broke loose and sent the car sideways.
I got some Fuzion ZRis, and the tires don't spin...........as much
Although the Fuzions still spin, the car doesn't tail wag, it just burns the rubber
(these are still 245s though)

Maybe it was the road surface. Maybe the tires were dirty. I occasionally have mine spin in 3rd and I'm like WTF is up with this road!

There is an easy way to figure out if you have a bigger stall or not. Get out on the street and get to 40 mph (that should be a dead spot for either 2.73 or 3.23 geared cars). Now watch your RPM guage and punch it. If the RPM gauge jumped to 1800 (give or take a few hundred) then you have the stock converter.

If you flashed to 3000 then you have a 3000 stall. 3500 means you have a 3500 stall and so on. I know that before my converter I could dead hook from any roll over 10 mph UNLESS the road was wet, gravel or extremly cold. Now with my TCI 3500 stall I can dead hook from anything over 25 mph. But I am also running drag radials now.

I tried this today and floored it from 40 and it shot straight to around 3500 so does that mean i have a 3500 stall?

If it shot straight to 3500 rpm's then yes. My guess is that the previous owner had a 3500 stall put in and failed to mention it when he sold the car. Hopefully he put a transmission cooler in as well.

Now get some drag radials and take it to a track.

Im not real smart when it comes to a transmission and all.. Do you have a pic of a trans cooler u could send me so I could see if its underneath the car.

And I know it cools the transmission but whats the effects that could happen without one?
