The ls6 intake is good for mild h/c packages, you only need the fast for the bigger h/c and large cube blocks. Also when the tuning comes around its far better. JMHO
probably because the intake situation is almost common knowledge at this point and its such an easy fix if you dont have one. The T/A's steering wheel imo isn't ugly ***. I've got an auto so the clutch thing doesn't really apply to me. I will give you the pcm, its an ordeal getting it tuned.

I ran the **** out of my original '98 motor. Then I sold it to Coach after he blew up his built motor. He ran the **** out of it every weekend (if you go to the Drag Racing section, you'll see how many rounds Coach can put on a car in a weekend). The motor was dead consistent and ran great for him. He finally got a new motor built, and then sold the '98 motor to someone else. I tried to buy it back but it had passed to other hands already.

I would not call a '98 weak at all.

The cost of an LS6 intake manifold vs the cost difference between a 1998 and a 2001 is, what, exactly?

It's not very hard, or expensive, to put an LS6 intake manifold on a 98-00.

Piston slap? What's piston slap? Never had that from my 98.

Tuning? I took it to LS1speed, they tuned it, it drives great. Pretty simple.

My 98 SS runs perfectly. Just put LT's, catted y, catback on and it put down 330 rwhp on a 92+ degree day with damn near that much humidity. As far as the tuning goes, any reputable shop can tune the car on the dyno. Yes 98's are more complicated, but who cares? In better weather my A4 98 would have laid down 340 or more to the wheels......not bad for the "worst" Fbody.

People ragging on '98s are either uninformed or ignorant about what the differences actually mean in the real world.

PCM is no biggie. Go to a shop, get it dyno tuned. End of story.

LS6 intake is a damn bolt-on for '98-'00. Install, block off EGR, tune out EGR when you need your first dyno tune. Not a reason to buy/not buy a car.

'98s don't usually have piston slap, and they rarely burn oil. Same can't be said for the other years (my '99 and '00 had some slap and a decent amount of oil useage on the '00).

And for people ragging on the '98-'99 Camaro steering wheel, IMO it looks fine. Not to mention you guys shouldn't talk. Your '00+ cloth Camaro seats look foul compared to the '98-'99 cloth seats.

IMO we should just be locking these threads. I know that it's usually a newbie asking this type of question, but there is nothing new to debate here. People that actaully OWN or have OWNED '98s know that there is nothing about them that should make people avoid them. Frankly, the newer models have some weaknesses and disadvanatges as well, but none of the '01+ guys ever want to talk about that.

My '98 Vette burns a little oil. Like 1/2 a quart in 3000 miles. I my '96 Z28 LT1 didn't even do that it leaked it from the front seals instead haha. I don't know the differences between the F-body and Y-body but i think the motor's were the same and i don't have any of the issues some speak of EXCEPT the oil consumption. No Piston slap AT ALL and many other things are no big deal. Are the PCM's in the F-body's and Vette's the same when it comes to programming and modding them?

Uh, yeah.

I think JRP has something to say on that.

AN LS1 IS AN LS1 IS AN LS1!!

Dont' bicker about little differences between the years and between the models. An SS is the same darn thing as a Z28, etc.

That's barely anything.

My '00 used to use 1 quart per 1000 miles. My '98 uses nothing at all.

Thats so true about 98's not burning any oil, I had my oil there for 4.5 mi and didnt burn one single drop, and my car is only bolt ons and so far taken ls2 corvettes, also keep in mine we have a bigger cam and when teamed up with the ls6 intake would be a better combination than the newer ones with the smaller cam and their ls6 intake, also we have a working temperature gauge.

I agree 100%. The '03 Camero was probably the worst car ever built. If you see one for sale, stay the HELL away from it. Nothing but trouble.
