'98 is not a bad year. People who tell you that are mis-informed.
There are some '98 specific differences.

Bad model year?------->not at all
Just some differences is all. Obviously with any car they make certain changes every year to hopefully upgrade performance so of course the later years are a little more refined. You have been given misinformation as far as it being a bad year.

I love my working temp gauge, bigger injectors, and bigger cam(not really). The biggest disadvantages i see about the 98's are the exhaust manifolds, and the ls1 intake(pretty easy fixes). Also if you bust a sensor you will be waiting a little longer because no auto parts place stocks them, and most cant even order them.

this is snowmans friend John.. I have a 98 Trans am. and i love it.. The only difference is that it doesnt have the Ls6 intake or the heads.. The ports on the heads on the 98s are smaller than 99 and above.. Other than that its great

And the exhaust manifolds are shared with '99, so that's not a '98 specific thing. As well as the intake being shared with '99 & '00.
'98 injectors are the same size as '01/'02 (although a different part number), and bigger than the '99-'00.
As for the sensor, you must mean the coolant temp sensor right above cyl. #1? I think you can only get that from GM.

Heads supposedly flow a little less than the later heads. And the whole computer being different from the later years. My 98 didn't feel all that strong when it was just lid/catback but she rips pretty damn hard now. Once you start modding, you won't notice a difference in power between the years.

Don't get me wrong---I love my 98--BUT, I HATE the inferior 98 pcm. I wish I had a different year for the sole reason of being able to use all the custom SD operating systems and useful tuning tools that 98's cannot utilize. Converting to a 99+ pcm is possible, but an expensive and majorly involved chore for sure.

the only reason i got my '99 is because of the 98's have the coils bolted to the heads whereas the 99+ have them on a bracket (easier plug changes IMO). that was the only real differance why i wanted one more then the other.
