This has been covered many times. All these cars are Firebirds. A Formula is a Firebird with a V-8. Then there is the Trans Am option and the WS6 option. Some Formulas were available with the WS6 option without being Trans Ams. If you are looking at your door sticker you will find the code for both Formula and WS6 on your Trans Am WS6. This seems to be a cause for some confusion. If it's a Formula the front, rear and wing are styled just like the base V-6 Firebird, but it has a V-8.

All V8 Firebirds will have the WS9 RPO (Formula Conversion Package) This does not mean it's a Formula, One of the following RPO's must be present to identify what model the car is.
All Formula's will have the W66 RPO (Formula Merchandise Package
All Trans Am's will have the Y82 RPO (Trans Am Merchandise Package
WS9 + W66 = Formula
WS9 + Y82 = Trans Am
WS9 + W66 + WS6 = Formula WS6
WS9 + Y82 + WS6 = Trans Am WS6

Actually the Vin # doesn't distiguish between Formula or Trans Am it merely states the at it is a V8 Firebird. and thats where his confusion is from.
