Default Would you buy a salvage-title car with no frame damage?

http://nashville.craigslist.org/car/431245238.html

The guy said he's going to send me several pictures since I'm not close to where the car is. Is this something I should even consider buying? Obviously, we'll get a better idea with the pictures, but he said it's only the bumper damage is only noticeable if you're looking for it.

Of course he would say that.

Plus, pictures can be misleading to all hell, and you wouldn't know because you need to see the car in person :/

Yeah. He did mention taking several pictures so I didn't go over there for no reason. He's an Asian guy, so I had a hard time understanding him, too.

I'm looking for an automatic, leather, and t-top LS1 F-Body with a CD player. I know it's not too much, but I have $5500 cash.

the salvage title might have been from a previous wreck. get all the information you can. if you dont know what your'e looking for i wouldnt buy it but if you knwo what your lookign at, buying a salvage title car in good shape could save you some $$$. dont be discouraged if you know what your'e looking at

Well, my Dad is the mechanic. If the frame is even messed up slightly or there is something fishy about the car, he can catch it.

real mechanic or a tree one?? most mechanics won't be able to see a good hide job of frame damage, trust me i'v been going to school for almost 2 years for my degree in auto tech and have a few years exp and im always at 1-2 body shops because i know the owners.. my current DD has a salvage rebuilt title and u cant tell unless you take the headlights out or look under at the supports

basicaly you have got to see the car before to know if its normal or not lots of stuff can look normal... personally id look at it close and being a vert the structure isnt to good anyway to begin with but on the test drive i'd take it up to around 100 maybe higher see what its doing..

first off i buy cars, flip them, use them for myself all on craigslist. if there isn't a picture for the car no ******* way theres a reason why theres not a picture because its probably to discouraging to show it, anyone wanting that much would happily put a picture if especially if there trying to get rid of it don't get it only look at cars with pics thats a start. and i wouldn't touch salvage cars enless you know there complete history!

I have before. But I would always be cautious of what I bought.

I think you can do better for the money. If you're dead set on this car get a carfax, it SHOULD tell you why it has a salvage title and you could focus on that area when you look at it.
Salvage title means it's been totalled, they totalled my dads van a few months ago, he bought it back and I fixed it for $340 worth of junkyard bolt on parts of the same color, no paint work or anything, no frame damage. It took me longer to find the right color parts than it took to swap everything out. Seems like they total anything these days.

it's easier to total a car out than to pay to have it fixed, that's why. stupid i know, but that's just how insurance companies work.

we import most of the f-bodys here to iceland wrecked,

and like we look at it.. they are so badly made that.. they only get better after being repaired @ good workshop

my car is an salvage title, had an accident back in 98, i've ripped the car to parts during my build and never seen anything that was bad because of the wreck,

with that many miles and a salvage title, let it slide. i bought my 98 trans am 6 weeks ago for $9500. Only had 59k miles and had some mods done already (basically everything in my sig). Personally, I wouldnt buy that car. A good deal will come up in the future.

Salvage titles can be a really pain, insurance companies will not insure beyond basic coverage. The vehicles are always worth less in the long run because everyone will question why it has a salvage title. If you plan on keeping the car for the rest of your life, or are going to turn it into a racecar, then a salvage car can be a good deal.
