Why do A4 owners get all defensive....
When someone asks if they should get a A4 or M6 ?? Im tired of hearing how the A4 pulls out of the hole etc. argument. Truth be told 90% of A4 owners would have purchased the M6 if available when they were buying. I have had both and would never give up the M6 for the occasional "dig" out of the hole. Too much fun doing everything else in the M6. Let the flaming begin....

I have owned both A4 and M6 (current SS is an M6)...
I would have to say that I wish I had both.
Right now my SS is M6 and it would be really sweet to have an A4 TA!!
Given the choice to only have one,M6.Just soo much nicer to feel in TOTAL control of the car in my opinion.
Oh and IBTL!!!

Keep in mind that the autos hold up to a beating better than M6 cars. M6 guys break their 10 bolts a lot more often, the stock clutch sucks, and its pretty easy to strip gears/wear out syncros powershifting.
If you are going to drag race, the auto is superior in every single way.

The last standard I drove was a 3-ton delivery stuck for a farm supply store.
somehow I don't see how going from that to a 13 second car was going to be a great choice.
I went with the A4 when I was car shopping because I hear a lot of people at the track running standards who miss shifts, roll through the beams or miss their shift point (shifting early or late). I also hear it can be a real art to trying to launch at high rpm with good tractioin.

i would have gotten an m6 but an a4 was avaiable at my time of purchase with an unbeatable deal........(2001 Black SS with flawless paint, interior, everything with only 15k miles on it for $19,999) but i am still very happy with my a4. down the road, maybe a m6 car, regardless of which one "hooks the best out of the hole and quicker shifts" they are both still the same Camaro Or T/A

I have had two M6 Trans Ams and this time around i opted for the A4 camaro. I'll only get a little defensive when people say stupid stuff that isn't correct about them.
I like being able to talk on the phone, drink a pop, and make a left hand turn all at the same time.

I'm the other way around...I bought my M6 because I couldn't find an A4 car quickly enough. I love drag racing, not that my car's really anything too fast (full bolt ons with a 100/125 shot) but it would be nice to let the thing rip out of the hole without worrying about breaking ****.

You should read each thread post for post. Most A4 guys don't get defensive until some M6 guy makes a comment like "automatics are for girls" or "real men get sticks" or my personal favorate "girls prefer men with sticks".
That's usually when the gloves come off.
And I'm tired about hearing about the so called "fun factor" argument.
I'm guessing you just pulled that percentage out of your "you know what". There is no way you can know what 90% of people you have never met were thinking when they bought thier car.
That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. But I would never give up my stalled A4 for a M6. I have way too much fun winning drag races at the track. My list of manual kills include fellow LS1 F-bodies, two C6 Corvettes, Mustang GT500, 03 Cobra and many others.
Some A4 guys switch to an M6. Some A4 guys switch to A3's or A2's. Some M6 guys switch to an A4, A3 or A2. Some people stick with what they started with. To each his own.

I went from m6 to a4. This decision came from the fact that i wanted to run the best time ever at the track. And also because most races on the street that i was interested in were from a dig. In a perfect world i would have my a4 drag racing f-body, and a m6 vette for fun on the street.
Not really sure what the point of this thread was, id say 90% of the member just drive what they want to drive and dont put much more thought into it.

If I had to guess it would be to stir the pot.
Sometimes what people want changes over time. I bet 90% eventually end up with the setup that makes them happiest. Whether that's a T56, 4L60E, 4L80E, TH400 with a transbrake, powerglide, ect.

I wouldn't trade either of my A4 Camaros for ANY type of manual trans, ever. It's a personal choice, and neither is better than the other. Some people find the A4 boring, some people find the M6 annoying. To each his own.
I'm locking this one down because it's going to turn into nothing but a massive battle over opinions and preferance. There is nothing to discuss, just get what you like and don't settle for something you don't really want.
