![Question](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
*** Looking for info on A4 cars ONLY (prefer 2.73 gear info, but 3.23 is also welcome), and stock/bolt-on cars ONLY (no internal engine work, or big stall TCs). ***
I'm thinking of making my '02 car a 100% straight up daily driver, and selling off my econo-box. But considering I drive 70+ miles per day, gas mileage is a concern. I've owned 4 different LS1 F-bodies, but I have never used one as a regular daily driver, so I've really never tracked MPG very closely.
Here is what I need to know:
- Gear ratio.
- Stock or bolt-ons (please specify which bolt-ons)
- Driving style (easy, aggressive, wild)
- Your best MPG for a tank of gas (please specify city, highway, or mixed)
My current DD has attained a best MPG of 35 with mostly highway driving, or 30-32 with more mixed driving. So I want to see how much I'll lose going to my stock 2.73 A4 LS1.

3.23's city/highway mix i could get around 280 on a good tank. obviously a little more on all highway. when i start playing it drops to like 240-250 fast. think it was about the same before the exaust. never had mine tuned though. think there is room for improvement because the idle isnt perfect.

I have a 99 Z28 Camaro. It has the following:
-Stock 2.73:1 10 Bolt Rear
-Bolt Ons (SLP Air Lid, SLP LMII Exhaust)
-Driving Style: Easy since gas went through the roof, trust me on this one.
-Best MPG for a tank of gas: about 25-26 all highway, flat roads constantly at 65 mph with the windows up and no air conditioning (not the typical scenario). The car typically runs about 16 mpg with 25% highway and 75% city. Keep in mind that I am in a congested area.
I hope my information helps. I usually spend about 20 dollars to drive 100 miles in my Camaro with gas at the current price.

When my car used to be pretty much stock (lid and cutout) i have gotten 31MPG on the highway...i used to make a 300 mile round trip every other weekend when i was in school..and i would consistantly get between 28-30..with every once in awhile getting 31..This was with 2.73 gears, and driving it very easy.

1999 Camaro with 186,000 miles
LS1/A4
3.23 rear end
SLP lid and exhaust cutout (I have the cutout open 90% of the time)
I've calculated mileage twice (using miles traveled / gallons used)
27 mpg on one occasion (90% hwy/10% city)
22 mpg on the 2nd time (25% hwy/75% city)

Great info so far guys. Thanks. ![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
But please try to keep it to MPG rather than miles per tank, since some people fill up at 1/4 tank, 1/8 tank, etc. It's just not as consistant for measurement.
Great reply, exactly the sort of info I'm looking for. But I'm a little surprised you only got 25-26 with the conditions you described. I was thinking 28mpg+ with 100% highway and 2.73s would be easy with what you listed.

Now that I think of it, it could have been closer to 28 mpg. That was a one time deal, me and my buddy were coming back from the shore at night and it was cool out, all the roads coming back were flat (Jersey), so I figured I'd play the gas mileage game.

I never got over 21.5 mpg. And that's on the highway. '02 WS6, with a lid and catback only. 3.23 gears. Now have an '02 with a M6 and the best I've gotten with this one is 27mpg on the highway. Don't really expect a lot of mpg from an A4. But then again I've never driven an f-body with 2.73's. Andy

~12 city
~20 highway
but this is with a cam, and high stall.
i drive pretty easy in the city, and keep the rpms under 2k on the highway.
on my last tank i got 200 miles....75% city driving. but this had at least 8 WOT passes....It was the tank i used to get it dyno'd

'00 Formy, A4, 2.73's, 71k miles:
Since I've gotten the car in August, I've tracked the mpg pretty consistantly. I've averaged a best of 23.2mpg, and a worst of 22.1mpg.
I think I've gotten worse tanks than that, but I haven't really tracked my mileage since mid december, so I can't say for sure.
That 22mpg number is pretty consistant though.
NO mods escept a SLP lid, and that didn't affect mileage either way.
I drive very easy, I rarely take it over 70, I normally set the cruise around 65 or so. I drive 65 miles a day, so I feel your pain about mileage. That's why I drive so easy, I get better economy that way.
My driving is mixed, I don't do alot of strictly city, but my commute consists of 12 miles of two lane rural road, 35mph limit with about 6 lights, and 22 miles of highway, limit is 50-65mph, with a few good hills thrown in.
I'm a little dissapointed with the mileage, I was hoping to average 24 with it. I guess I can't complain though, considering what it is, 22 isn't bad. It's much better than my 16mpg 6 cylinder Jeep.
Fast Toys Ram Air claims up to a 10% increase in economy...if that's true, it'll get me up the the 24 that I want. ( I want it anyway though, any economy increase would be icing on the cake) It's not so much for the mileage...I just wish the range were longer, I hate that I can't make it through a five day workweek on one tank.
I'm also switching from my 245/45/17's on aftermarket chrome wheels (were on the car when I bought it) to 225/55/16's on stock alloys. That might help a bit, those 17's look HEAVY.
Hope that helps.

Looks like the averages are all over the place, from low 20s to near 30 with mostly highway driving.
I guess I'll just need to spend a few weeks DD'ing the car and see what it does, before I make a decision. I'm 100% sick of my econobox, but getting 32-35mpg sure is nice when you're driving about 400 miles per week. If I could see 26-28 out of my stock A4 2.73 car with the same type of driving, I'd be happy.

See sig for mods. I too drive 74mi. a day (95% interstate) to work. I don't normally DD the camaro, but sometimes I'll DD for 2-3 wks straight before I park it again. I've NEVER gotten less than 20mpg. I set the tripmeter every fill-up and check it. My best was 25mpg before the tune. Since the tune my best is 23mpg.
I drive fast. I'll drive 70-75mph very gently for half a tank but then I can't take it anymore and will do retarded burnouts at lights and blast full-throttle to 110. I average 21mpg all the time. If I had the self control to baby it (I don't), it would no doubtedly get a little better. I usually only drive it to play with it, so I sacrifice 2-4mpg.

2.73 gear, Lid, LT's, ORY, LM1, and some free mods. Added an LS6 intake and P&P TB but didn't get an average with those before winter.
Best before bolts-ons was 27 mpg but it was about all highway.
Average with 60% highway and 40% city after bolt-ons the range is between 22 and 25 mpg with aggresive driving.
Plan on getting a tune the spring, we'll see if that helps with mileage at all.

3.23's
Full exhaust (LT's + Corsa)
Fairly aggressive driving style....can't help it I love the noise!!!
Average between 250-280 miles per tank daily driving to work and school.
Best I've achieved was 375.8 miles on one tank highway driving down from SC to FL. It shocked me....but I wasn't complaining.

bone stock 98z w/ 2.73's i got 21mpg in stop and go traffic, no highway. Now with exhaust, gears and a stall i see around 15 city only and maybe around 18-20 mixed.
