X2 about the 94-97 body styles looking better IMO. Just a matter of opinion choosing which engine to with. You will be happy going with either one,

It's time for "The Facts" and two "popular opinions"

1). Stock for stock with all things being equal the LS1 is faster. Fact.

2). Mod for mod with all things being equal the LS1 is still faster. Fact.

3). Bolt on LT1 record is 11.8 and the LS1 record is 10.8. Fact.

4). Cam only LT1 record is 11.1 and the LS1 record is 10.2. Fact.

5). Worlds fastest LT1 is 8.08 @ 174 and the LS1 record is 6.86 @ 205. Fact.

6). LS1 motors weigh less the the LT1. Fact.

7). LS1 engines don't sound as good as the LT1. Popular opinion.

8). LS1 guys like to mod too so beating stock LS1's means very little. Popular opinion.

9). Looks are purely subjective. Fact.

10). LS1 has a better head design then the LT1. Fact.

11). LS1 does not have optispark. Fact.

12). Some LS1 motors have harmless piston slap. Fact.

13). Many LS1 motors including mine have no piston slap. Fact.

14). I'm running out of fact ideas. Fact.

15). LOL.

As for the no low end grunt like the LT1 argument I'll just say this. I know a lot of people like the M6's for fun factor but if you look at stalled autos you notice they can flash right to powerband. So my car for example has no disadvantage anywhere down low because as soon as I go wot it's 3500+ rpm's and game over.

To the OP. I went from a 95 A4 Z28 to the 99 A4 Formula in my sig. It was a night and day difference for me on the street and at the track. I have no regrets on doing the switch and highly recommend any LS1 powered vehicle to anyone.

7,8, and 9 are opinions. Learned the difference in the 8th grade.
Yes the LS1s are better. No LT1 owner is this thread has claimed otherwise. We're just saying that the LT1 is a great motor. Read people read!

I think the whole point of this thread was for the op to find out if he will lose or miss that LT1 grunt.

The answer is NO.

The low end grunt is still there, it just is weaker than the LT1 by a little. It still has MORE low end grunt than a lot of GenI 3rd Gen cars and certainly more grunt than most cars on the road right now.

The grunt that you want IS just moved higher and lasts longer... all the way to redline. At 3500, most LT1 cars will be past their peak and will have a torque curve plummet to redline. The LSx is just getting started and carries it all the way to REV LIMITER for 90% of the cams that are out there.

All told, I still have a good 250ft/lb from around 1500-2000rpm on my TR224 cam. My old 88 car peaked at 270ft/lb...

I can pass most cars in 6th just going to half throttle starting from 1500. It's got torque. Just pales in comparison to the upper rpm and the low end torque of the LT1.

I'm thinking of calling Lloyd Elliott "since he does mods for our LT1 ricers" and see if I can get be some custom made racing strips and a 4 ft. spoiler. Heard they add 50 hp to our LT1 ricers.

For those that have seen me on here..I converted from a LT1 to a LSX..

I was originally thinking of just a LS1..but with some influence from some friends..I got ahold of some parts for cheap and built a nasty 402 Stroker in my 95 Z28.

I know we can't compare it to a LS1..but my "LT1" Camaro eats up bolt-on and cammed LS1's pretty damn quick and leaves them wondering..

As far as the low-end grunt goes..a Stroker with a 3600 Stall keeps it there..

imo i didnt really notice the ls1 f bodies being all that much faster than lt1 f bods. just a different power band that favors slightly higher rpm, but i jsut recently sold my 96 WS6 formula and when i went looking for something different(ls1 style) i drove a 99 m6 formula and i was very dissapointed. dont get me wrong it moved ok but it didnt feel like my ws6 at all!, IDK wht the deal was i mean both car had similar mileage 70k ish the ls1 was M6 my WS6 was A4! again just an opinion from my recent experience. like i said since day one if your going to the LS1 style f bodies make it for the looks and not for the power difference becouse some guys might be slightly dissapointed as i was, i never ended up buying the car, i figured i can hold out for a better deal...haha i certainly feel the LSx difference in the vettes tho

That is sick. Any dyno/track numbers?

I had a '95 Z28 for almost 4 years. I've had a '98 Trans Am since last September. It is an upgrade is every sense of the word. I had a few bolt-ons on the LT1, but the LS1 stock is still quite a bit faster. The LS1 has an MTI lid now. lol.

7 is opinion but it's the popular opinion even among the ls1 owners. I was just trying to throw LT1's a bone with this one LOL.

8 I could go either way on. The point of that was to stress that putting on just enough mods to beat a stock LS1 won't generate too many victories since soo many of us are modded too.

9 is definately not opinion. If someone says lt1 fbodies look better then that is an opinion. If someone says ls1 fbodies look better then that is an opinion. If someone says looks are subjective or beauty is in the eye of the beholder then that is a fact.

So I'll take seven and eight and change them to "popular opinion" but nine stays a fact!

Reading stuff like this really makes me want to get an LS1, but I love my car, it's almost rare and unique to see one like mine. (maybe not on the forums, but locally yes). I think I may just build up my LT1 TA, and when its time to move into the LSX platform, it will probably be a LS2 GTO or a G8, later down the road after college.

A couple weeks back i saw a pretty much stock LT1 ( headers, cut out, cold air) beat a LS1 GTO, automatic, guy said he had headers and LS6 cam.... before the run, then cried after he got beat, dunno, could have just been difference in driver, but, i caught the GTO with his tail between his legs couple days later, and tried to race a 4 cylinder S10, of course he won, but, i guess he was trying make up his ego on the lose against a slow lt1. just thought that was a funny story.
