Default LT1 to LS1

The car is a 95 Z with headers, exhaust, cold air intake, and a 3200 stall. I want either an ls1 ws6 or ss. I know the ls1 is a BETTER engine, but I dont wanna miss the power the lt1 makes either. What do you guys think? I know I will prolly be told to go LS1.

this is an ls1 forum after all... with your mods, you are probably in line with power for the ls1, but making the same numbers and how the ls1 makes them is different.

LS1 cars tend to start the power band later and peak around 4000rpm, it keeps that level of torque until 5500, even then the fall off to the rev limiter is gradual. Whenever you hear the area under the curve, you can be sure the ls1 has it.

The feel though in low rpm driving feels weaker than an LT1 as well. Even as it ramps you up to and beyond a stock lt1 power, you never really "feel" it as much as the LT1.

If you roll raced an LT1 vs a LS1 in stock form, the LS1 would be taken off the line but the LS1 would probably reel it in quickly and then pull away like a run away freight train.

Of course you are going to be told to go LS1. And what do you mean that you will miss the power of the LT1? LS1s make a decent amount more power, and are lighter than LT1s to boot! I suppose you meant you'll miss the low end grunt that the LT1 is known for. I like my engine because it is subtle down low (for daily driver purposes), but spin it up past 3000 rpms and it becomes a monster. Dollars per hp, you cannot beat the responsiveness to mods that the LS1 produces (when talking naturally aspirated engines of course). With a cam, headers, and a tune, and a few other bolt ons you could be seeing gains of 100 hp with an LS1! I would start lookin around. Good luck with your decision.

I want to have a very fast car is just that I've seen tons of cam only ls1's throw down 380-400 rwhp and very few cammed LT1's get over 350. I also want to know of people who made this switch and the pros/cons. Thanks for your input

I went from a 97 trans am with bolt on's to a 99 z28 (stock at the time) and it was a BIG difference in power. Gauranteed the z28 would rip the **** outa that Trans Am, and the z28 was stock...

You will notice a big increase in power goin to the LS1, simple as that...

My girlfriend drives an a4 lt1 with some mods. My m6 ls1 has a lid and no exhaust. From a dig the lt1 moves out but I pass it as soon as I hit about 25mph. From a roll its not a race.

The ls1 is a better motor and thats a fact. If you are worried about mpg the ls1 gets great numbers.

Alright any other opinions out there? I know this is prolly a stupid question, but are there any cons to the godly LS1?

honestly... learn to drive stick, otherwise the difference between the 2 is not as noticeable.

With my 6 speed full exhaust, intake, pcm tune, i had no problem edging out my roommates intake/catback auto ls1 from a dig or roll. the difference between just bolt-on cars will be in the driver. unless you start from a high roll, then the ls1 has the advantage. but not so much in the 1/4

I myself went from LT1 to LS1 (with a few years of nothing between).

Think of the LS1 as a smoother LT1 without optispark troubles.

Stock for stock, the LS1 makes more power and is quicker - fact. Around town, seat-of-the-pants, the LT1 probably feels stronger. But not much.

All these guys are telling you the truth, the LS1 eats all. Yes the LS1 has no where the grunt that the LT1 has down low, but up top it's just amazing. Lets put it like this, my car has a cam, manifold, carb, LT headers, X-pipe, flow masters, gears, drag radials, and cheap traction bars. My friend has a 2001 Z/28 that has a cut out, and it is an auto, so it's pretty much stock, and I can get him from a dig till about 50-60 and then boom I see his tail lights. From a roll it's just stupid how fast the thing is up top.

Another thing you will enjoy is that a stock LS1 car can cruise at 155 down the highway with the A/C on and two passengers... Yeah!

Also I've raced many other LS1 cars, I raced a stock LS1 Gto and it amazed me by how outstanding the LS1 really is!, I raced a cam/bolt on Ls1 gto one time and every time I shifted he would gain a car! A guy around here Grafftin I raced him back when his WS6 was just head and cam, bolt on. He had a LS6 cam and it was pretty much every gear he gained cars.

If you ask me, the LS1 is amazing at what it can do. I personialy wish I would have bought a Modded LS1 car for the price I paid for my camaro. Just go test drive one you will be really happy at what they can do, so far I got to drive a 01 Z/28 and also a 01 covertible vett and it was amazing how fast they were stock, and i've driven/rideen in alot of LT1 cars. I will end up buying an LS1 car eventually.

Sweet, that would make my car brand new! Wonder if the dealer will offer me 1998 value on a trade...
