Default LS2 GTO vs C5 Corvette, which one?

I'm seriously entertaining the idea of selling my 06 Goat for a 2000-03 Corvette. Prices are comparable, so someone talk me into it, or out of my madness. Any input is appreciated.

GTO is a 2006 TR/Blk, M6, 17000 miles. I have all original documentation and window sticker/EPA info, etc. I also have the info CD and an original silver GTO brochure that came with the car that hasn't even been opened. Car is in emaculate shape w/ no problems. I have installed a sunroof (just like Monaro), and the bluetooth kit. It is mostly garage kept now that my TT T/A is running again.

What would you do? Keep it, or go with a 'vette?

I would go with a vette... way lighter and with a few small mods they can be quick as hell.

Thats a tough decision for someone in your situation. You already have the "GO" car. I think it boils down to how nice of a C5 you could find. Whichever one looks cooler to you. Personally I would keep the goat so you have a 4 seater. Now if you were looking at a C6 vette...

Thanks for bringing that up, cause I didn't say it directly. The GTO is used for cruising and having fun. It's not a drag car or a street race car or anything like that. I only punch it every now and then for the fun, but mostly it's a sanely driven street car with some growl. I do have another vehicle that fills that performance role very well, and I have no intention of getting rid of it anytime soon.

The 'vette would fill the same role. Weekend cruiser, occasional drive to work, light street "work". So with that in mind, great input! Keep 'em comin!

I think C6's are a bit out of my price range........

If you haven't driven a C5 yet you should go test one. I think you'll be hooked. For the prices that some of the 2000-02 are bringing they are hard to beat. It's a fantastic all around performer and it's usually just a few relatively easy mods away from being C6 comparable. Not to slight your GTO(they are awesome cars), but the vette gets recognized. Which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. I don't think you will be disappointed though.

My wife drives an 06 GTO I have an 02 S/C ZO6 and there is a world of difference between the two. Even when the Z was not super charged there was a big difference between the two. The GTO rides better but just feels heavy with more body roll. I run the Z on the drag strip in SCCA solo’s and HPDE’s. Go ahead and pony up to the 02 and up ZO6 you be more than happy that you did.

No doubt about it the Corvette is a better performer. I wanted the back seat of the GTO for the kids. I modified the suspension of the GTO and now I doubt there is a typical Corvette I have to worry about. But, dollar for dollar, the Corvette is a better performance car.

i too say go with the C5 Not that i'm Bias or anything But in all honesty the GTO's just aren't THAT cool. i mean I notice them but the average joe won't. They just don't scream when you seem 'em. i mean my g/f doesn't notice them until i point them out and say "nice car" but when she see's a Vette she gets all excited idk i know you can't add big tires to a GTO in the back without tubbing them. and they ARE heavy but the seats are nice. i still say the GTO is blah in the styling(even ls2 ones).C5(coupe or Z06) would be my choice anyday. Just to ***** my car and talk you into it though, HOW can you turn your head away from sexyness LOL Look below~Cole~

i think i would go with GTO for what you said you use it for, like previously stated you already have a "GO" car. for a cruiser i would take the GTO, nice interior four seats. with the right appearance mods they can be real noticeable for those that said they dont jump out at you. here is josh99ta's car. one of the best looking cars on the board in my opinion! if i could i would have the best of both, sell the T/A for a vette and make that the "GO" car!

I would get the vette.... Only if it was a Z06. If you just want a regular C5, then stick with the Goat. The GTO is a very nice car and a very comfortable ride.

I had to make this same decision a few months ago.... Look at my sig.

If it was me, I would keep the GTO. (well, that's my plan anyways, and I'm about in the same boat as you, with a 2006 M6 GTO and a 98 WS6 with APS TT's sitting in a box)

The GTO is a much better "driver" imho than a C5, go drive some, and look at the interior, it just looks like it is covered in cheap black vinyl (and that is bad coming from a ws6 owner)

I hope this helps. Your GTO is awesome, with the sunroof (I saw it at one of the waterford GTO meets)

I would definitely keep the GTO. The GTO is going to be a better daily driver than the vette.
You already have a TT t/a so who cares about the vette performing better than the GTO.
