Default Mobil 1 0w-30

I was at walmart yesterday and saw Mobil 1 0w-30 now. I use to run mb1 5-30 in my truck and car, but swithched both to the castrol 0w-30 recently. I searched and didn't find any discussions about mobils 0-30.Anyone give some input on it. I have to drive an hour to get the castrol, and would be much easier to get Mobil at wally world. But then again I want the best for my vehicles.

IMO, M1 0W40 would be a better choice.

i have read some threads on this a while back . seems like it is or was popular among the vette owners even though we share the same engine . also i belive newer motors tend to like this a bit better .
search for a user named patman , he was the oil guru and knows all there is to about oil .

why would 0w40 be better than 0/5/10w30?

To me M1 0-40 is a much better choice than the M1 0-30..M1 30 weight oil runs a little bit thinner than a number of the other syn oils...I have run the M1 0-40 or M1 10-40 for 153,000 miles now and I cannot complain about its performance. Every time the motor has been torn down for mods it looked great on the inside..and this car has been run hard its whole life..it see the red line every day without fail..

For M1, use 0w40, not 0w30. The ratings are not very consistant between companies.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 is getting rave reviews and has the same general price and availability of M1 0w40. I went from M1 0w40 to PP 5w30 after Patman's review.

However, if you change oil every 3,000 miles, it doesn't ******* matter what you use within reason. Keep it clean and full and you can use the cheapest oil you can find of just about any weight and it will do just as well at lubing your engine as these "fan boy" oils.

To answer your question about the benefit of 0w-40 over the others you have to take your climate into account. Seeing that you are from new york, a 0 weight on startup is going to flow much better, because it is thinner. This is when most engine wear occurs. As for the 30-40 difference, Mobil's oils tend to run a little thin at operating temp just like slt200mph said. This will keep the oil a little thicker while your beating on it.
