Tail light Faded
#81
its not factory fit but close and good enough. other than deformation, i think the reason for mine was becuz i was pulling pretty hard when it was still hot, just be sure to take you time pullin it apart and it should be fine, and becarefull to not break the plastic edge on the inside of the light or it will be hard to line up right when you put it back together.
hope it comes out good, and post some pics if you dont mine i would like to see hows yalls turns out

there is a plastic edge on the inside of the light that allows the light to fit together like a puzzel. Its not big so it will crack really easy if the glue isn't hot enough to come apart it will break that edge making it difficult to get back together properly

They're Torq Trust II's 17x9" fronts and 17x11" rears. I'm running 275 Sumitomos up front and 315 BFG Comp TA drag radials out back.
Just an update: My tail light has held up well so far. No visible condensation inside. And it seems just as bright as the original.

I wonder what it would look like if you got the driver side and passenger side, and sprayed them black instead of chrome?... I think I have a spare taillight somewhere that is suffering from chrome-corrosion effects. I'll have to try this. Love the nightshade look.
P.S. Would doing that be illegal for on-road use?

Honestly, I kinda like the faded look for my NBM colored car and would be glad to trade someone my good driver's side for a faded one as long as their light ain't cracked...
About a month ago I had spotted a red WS6 with a faded driver's-side parked at a gas station. I swung back around to talk to the guy but friggin traffic delayed me and he disappeared.

[QUOTE=ponchoV8;9938731]My car has the exact same thing on the passenger-side taillight. I see you used RTV silicone and you had trouble with the one side. Do you think something stronger like a JB Weld would be better?
the RTV held fine i just didnt have anything to hold together long enough so i had to get a c clamp which worked perfect

MY RTV silicone has held fine so far as well.
I used two of these on the far corner: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ctId=100027346
Two of these on the side by the reverse light: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ctId=100004158
One of these to hold the middle portion together: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ctId=100132391
And lastly, one of these where it looked to be needed (the middle edge where I broke the lip): http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ctId=100090741
Wish I had pictures, but it seemed to work. And I just returned it all when I was done.

well i did this last night and it sux!!!
i baked at 210 cause my oven runs a lil hotter. ran it for 10 min. popped the oven open and the corner had deformed the reverse light had sunk in. and also the center of the light had also sunk in. after prying apart i broke the corner off above the reverse light. ill just have to bid on ebay to get one i guess.

I'm going to bump this thread with a question or two.
Has anyone tried using a heat gun to separate the lens from back to try to stop any deformation of the tail light.
Has anyone thought of using reflective tape inside instead of chrome paint, cause spray can chrome paint is very dull and reflective tape would be almost identical to the chrome that came inside the light from the factory.

mine is holding up good still, the only thing is where i sprayed the chrome on the reverse light you can see some bubbling of the chrome, other than that it still reflects good enough, another trick for the guys that did this and got condensation back in it, is to drill some small holes on the back or bottom side of the tail light, it allows air to get in a dry it up i put four little holes in mine on the back bottom of the light, no water sense
