I was going through the same thing going from SS to Ford Fusion. Long story short I'm back into a GTO.

I am buying a fbody for a DD for the gas mileage lol. I don't have to drive far to school so it is not that big of a deal to me. I don't do beater DD cars sorry. DD my 70 El Camino 40 miles to and from work everyday for over a year and it never phased me at all. As long as it gets double digit mileage I am ok with that. I have never been one to look at mileage i just put about 30 bucks in at a time and when I run low bam another 30. Doesn't seem to hurt the wallet as much when you do it that way.

My low 12 sec '98 Formula gets 24 MPG on the highway. I have a '94 Saturn SL1 I bought for $700 for my daily driver/beater that gets 33 MPG. Selling your awesome car in order to get a "ho-hum" boring commuter car = bad idea. Just the looks I get from people while cruising my Formula make any loss in mileage well worth it. I wouldn't even go near a 3RD gen if I were you. Save up and buy an LS1 M6 and you'll be MUCH happier.

Get a 6 speed, they get great mileage, mainly on the highway. My friend with a 6 spd '02 SS got 28-30 hwy stock and 24-27 hwy after putting down 386 to the wheels with a cam and long tubes.

Mine is getting 31-32 on the hwy according to speedo. Wrong gears though are throwing that off so id say a solid 25 give or take.

I feel ya though i bought a bike when my mom got mad at me and sold my 01 TA. I had it for 3 weeks... And before that i sold the 94 to buy a truck....that lasted about 2 months....I still want a bike really bad, but the car will stay.

Well this may make you feel better, petrol prices in England is around $9.56 per gallon. I say if the car gives you enjoyment, sod the fuel prices. Do what makes you feel good.

x2, I am rocking 25.5mpg average on a full tank (highway/city mix but mostly highway)... my 'best' for highway only fill ups have been 28~29 (360+ miles to the tank [~13 gallons to fill). Nothing really to complain about here... I live a block off the highway, pull out hit 5mph over the limit and lock in the cruise control.

I had a stock 97 Z28 and did full boltons, wheels, tires etc myself to it (parts + labor) and sold it a while back. I know I didn't do THAT much work to it.. but I had a lot of time and $$ in to it in odds and ends stuff. Well I sold it anyways, and bought a bike thinking that would make me happy. Rode the bike, love the bike, but it's just not an fbody. I have been on the hunt ever since and finally found one a couple weeks ago. I haven't been this happy for a LONG time!

I have 4 vehicles right now.. and really don't need all of them. I don't have to DD the Camaro but it's been so nice this week I have been.

93 Jeep GC 4x4 - winter and mudding duty
00 Sonoma ZQ8 - DD duty, parts hauler (own an f-body remember) (FOR SALE)
06 GSXR 600 - nice weather cruising (FOR SALE)
00 Z28 - nice weather cruising

I really only need one vehicle for DD duty/winter, and I don't think the lowered 2wd Sonoma would be that great. I plan on using the ole Jeep to DD and drive in the snow, and store the car for nice sunny days. I'm selling the bike also because I really don't need 2 nice weather cruisers, and the drivers around here are just plain STUPID!

^ Except for me of course!! And to the OP, I hope you get an f-body back that you love because when I sold my first TA and was inbetween cars it was the worst time in my life. I was definately having serious withdrawals!!!

I miss my car so f'in bad. I have dreams about it. There is no excitement in a grand prix. Its a great daily driver but it looks like I will quickly be coming back to the f-body family. I need a toy, I didn't think the itch would hit me this hard and so quickly after selling my LS1. Im still gonna keep the GP as a DD but am currently bagging my monthly bonuses from work and gonna do a third gen project or something. It SUCKS. If any of you guys are considering letting your baby go please CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES! To hell with gas prices and maintenance...these cars won't be around forever!
i did the same thing but got a lincoln ls .....im back to an f-bod ...alot of ppl have done it i think
