Idk. had both, and I have to say when I nail it, my LS1 sounds waaaaay more awesome. It just sounds pissed and ready to kill something. The LT1 I had was just loud and ... loud.

The LS1 when modded sounds much more raw...and you can just tell that it is a "True" musclecar.
I think that my car sounds sick down the track. I love the way it sounds anytime it is on really!!!

In stock form or even catback the LT1 sounds better IMO. Now when you cam, head and full exhaust both i think the LS1 sounds mean and more aggressive and the LT's sound more deep but rice crispy to much(snap, crackle, pop) on decel. I'll try and get a video clip of my Vette sometime soon. It's full bolt ons, TSP Lt's and o/r Xpipe heads, cam, B&B Bullet mufflers. It's WICKED mean sounding
~Cole~
P.S. this video is with the mods above but with stock Corvette Z06 Titanium mufflers which were to quiet for me
lol i only went about 40-45% throttle according to my Palm Scanner. It's not a very good camera but listen to it in person with the new exhaust and it'll give a deaf man the chills when i give it the gas![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)

LS1 sounds better. no popping when engine braking, consistent gargling sound when on a smooth accel, and a loud scream when you nail it to WOT. when cammed they sound even better.

also guys, for the record the LS1 and mod 4.6 have the same firing order. so if you do an H pipe to flowmasters on an LS1 and a mustang, they would almost be identical sounding.
lots of things come into play with the sound difference of the LT1 and LS1. firing order, aluminum block, boreXstroke, etc.

The material of the block has nothing to do with it. My Iron block LQ4 sounds exactly the same any Aluminum block LS1. It has to do with the chamber design in the cylinder head (how the combustion actually happens, the sound of the combustion in term of completeness), the camshaft valve events (how the overlap affects the dilution of the mixture and how much air/fuel mixture is allowed to enter the chamber and at what point (relative to TDC/BTC)), exhaust port design (how the exhaust pulses are scavenged out through the exhaust, and how the sound waves are carried away), exhaust plumbing (type of muffler used, how banks are merged and their routing). It is not specifically one thing, but it is definately not the material used. If it was then Aluminum headed SBC would sound different from Iron headed SBCs, but they don't.

I think the LT1 sounds better whether it is stock or modded. I had a 383 LT1 with a 3" X pipe and bullets and I have never heard anything that I thought sounded better. I have a 2000 Z28 now and it just doesnt sound as good, neither did my brothers heads, cam, and full bolt on 99 T/A. However, the LS1 is a far better engine, so I will just put up with it not sounding quite as good. DOHC mustangs do sound amazing, though.

ok sorry i was reading this and had to chime in. ok my buddy has a 99 ss camaro with gmmg cat-back and that has to be the the best sounding ls1's ive ever heard. yes gmmg is made to do that. but i have to say my lt1 sounds a hell of alot better and all i have exhaust wise now is magnaflow cat-back and a cutout in front of the magnaflow muffler. and on some people saying lt1's r slow. check out the mods in my sig. and lets put it this way i can hold my own with ls1's that have intake and exhaust work. and my car is un touched tuning wise. and lt1's being slow sure lt1's r out dated but ls1's have there flaws too. so?? sorry had to say all that. i stick by my good ol' lt1. LT1'S ALLL THE WAY!!!! ITS THE ONLY WAY!!!

I can't even recall what a LT1 sounds like, but the L98 in my '88 GTA sounded real nice.
