Our department is too busy responding to regular crimes (assaults, robberies, shots fired calls etc.) and general calls for service to start stopping people for less than that. If I have time to write more than 20 cites a month it is rare. Our highway that runs through the city has a 60 mph limit. Everyone.... and I mean EVERYONE does at least 68-70 mph. I stop cars at 80+mph and I usually feel pretty good doing it. I got stopped myself by the Ohio Highway Patrol a few months ago for "speeding" and when the trooper told me he stopped me for driving 71 in a 65 I really had to bite my tongue not to snicker a little. Every department is different.

I've heard that one a few times too...... always makes me smile. That must be nice with the estimates. Our courts would laugh at us if we started writing people based on our visual estimates. It wasn't until recently that we could pace traffic with our own cars and write citations.
