I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5w-30 and Mobil 1 Extended life filter in my LT1. It has worked well in all of my cars. The best grade oil you can buy is Castrol Syntec at about $7.00 a quart. It has higher industry standards than any oil I have seen (also one of the few oils to meet Volkswagen's strict standards for the 1.9l Turbo Diesel).

plus royal purple is way 2 expensive

Like the other thread states, for regular driving, you want to use a thin oil since 90% of engine damage occurs during start up when the engine is not up to its normal operating temperature of around 212. The thicker the oil is, the more damage will occur. A synthetic oil will stick to engine parts better as well, providing better lubrication.

Just my 2 cents,
0w30 Synthetic in the LS1 (primarily from what I've been reading on here)
5w30 Conventional GM dealership stuff in the G5 and Impala (both are still under warranty and get dealer serviced anyways)
I am more **** about the frequency of my maintenance than anything. 5K on the dot everytime, haha
