rough start up, then high idle

Default rough start up, then high idle

i have a 98 trans am and, well the past couple days my car has been starting up a little rough..today was probably the worse...i would try and start the car the engine will turn but doesnt fire up, then finally after a few seconds fires up, all the electronics reset, like the clock ect.... but once the car is started it idels between 2-3000 rpms for a while rpms didn''t go back to idle this time, so i shut off the car... started it again and fired up fine...anyone have any ideas.possible battery or started?...any help will be appreciated thanks

I'd start with the battery terminals/battery load test. Is it turning over slower than normal?

well randomly it has been ...so far today besides that incident it has no problem starting up..i'm not sure but i think i may have the battery tested at autozone or something...

Clean all your terminals and re-tighten your battery. This is typical GM bullshit, They use side mount posts that corrode and can break easily.

If the PCM loses its "memory keep alive" 12 volt power, it'll do this. It forgets what it takes to run the commanded idle RPM and it takes a short bit of time to relearn it.

The first time my battery died, the car had been sitting for a week and I had to jump it off to get it to start and I had the same issues with high idle, etc. I ended up replacing the battery not to long after...
