I had this same problem, and after replacing half a dozen bulbs and a few sockets I got pissed off! What I did is replaced the melted and coroted socket with a new bulb then drilled a small hole to let water drain and I have not had to touch it since last spring. The problem in my case was water and moisture getting in there and just sitting in it, though I never noticed it. You can get the socket harnes at auto zone real cheap but I dont remember the part number. You can just cut the old one out and match it up at the store. Good luck!

greetings,

LS1crazy01, I read your post on the other page, but I don't think it applies. I drive a 1994 z28. does anyone know what I need to do to get at my front marker light (passenger side). do I have to remove the whole splash panel? (like 10 bolts)

Thanks

I'm going to say probably not, my buddy has a '95 and I'm pretty sure you can get to it by the little flap(like 3 bolts). You might need someone with smaller forearms though cause it can be a tight fit.

yep, you were right, I only had to take out 3 bolts in the front portion of the splash panel to get at it. here is a tip for future bulb replacers who read this: turn the bulb on when you put it back in, the light can guide you to the hole (you look at it from the outside)
