Default Front hub play

While starting my shock/spring swap I discovered an ever so slight movement or play in the drivers side hub...The play is a slight in and out not up and down....Is that normal? Car only has 35k mi.

There shouldn't be any play. It should be nice and tight. Maybe it's time to replace it.

How many miles do you have on them? The originals on my car only lasted me 75K miles.

Car only has 35k on it. I'm not even sure it's the hub, the movement is so slight it's hard to pinpoint.

As stated earlier there should be no play.

I have replaced a wheel bearing about 50k with a dealer part. That part went bad in about 20k. Replaced that with a 99 dollars O'Reily's and never touched it again.

They just go bad sometimes.

the in & out motion is endplay, which you should not have, and can cause tire wear and handling problems if there is too much endplay.

parent's chrysler 300C with around 30k miles, only a few years old, had one hub go bad. At first i said it's an alignment problem, you could hear it hum sort of and the car would pull the left most of the time. But it was the hub, had both hubs left & right replaced actually. So yes, they can go bad, they are a mass produced item so there will be some that do not last 100k + miles.

It should spin smoothly, quietly, & effortlessly. And there should be no in-and-out or up-and-down play. That's what you tie rods & balljoints are for.

Replace it.
