Exclamation Replaced Idler pulley & still squealing and chirping!!!!!

Ive started having a chirping and squealing noise at idle and gets louder as the RPMs climb while driving.... As stated ive replaced the idler pulley and its still doing it..... Do I need to replace the harmonic balancer??? it sounds as if the noise is coming from around that area.... This noise is so damn frustrating and its becoming embarrassing when im driving.... please help!

It could be your AC idler pullies. Rather then buy each one, try this as a quick band aid and find out which one it is:

+1; did this on mine just to make sure my pulleys have grease; you could take off the belt and spin the pulleys and find out which one makes noise... it will probably round like a roller skate wheel.

It could also be one of the tensioners or even the alternator.

Harmonic balancer is the very last thing i would look to. Most likely the AC tensioner or idler or belt. Then the other idler then stuff like the alternator or power steering.

If it happens when the engine is running I would still grease all of them as per that article.

If you hear it when you shut off the car then I'd look at the cooling fans.

How many miles are on the car? Have you ever changed the belts? Look at the main serpentine tensioner and see if the marks on the tensioner are within spec. Does the belt seem to have sufficient tension? Your description sounds like a slipping belt.

ok im going to look at the a/c tensioner next..... How do I take that off? What tools are needed?

Also, is this the right part that needs to be replaced? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_560864597___

To save some time/guessing cash, take off the main belt and run the engine for a few seconds to find the sound. If the sound is still there then its the ac. If not then its something else. BTW I have a less than 3k mile whole tensioner setup for the ac ill sell for basically shipping/gas to the post office if you need it.

UPDATE..........

Just pulled off the belt to see if it was still squeaking and sure enough it is.

What should I look into replacing since its not the a/c tensioner?

Thanks!

You took off the A/C belt and started the car? Try the main tensioner pulley. I replaced both the tensioner and idler pulley, only to find out it was something on my A/C drive. But if it's still making the noise with the A/C belt off the car, then it might be one of those 2 on the main belt. Also replace the belt itself...

With the main belt off, can you spin each of the pulleys and get any to squeal?
