Yup...there's no plug that will perform better.....NGK TR55 or TR5 (they are 100% identical)

Gap them at .050

Don't get caught up in all the super-duper spark plugs out there....they are all BULLSHIT.

I woudl recommend against those MSD wires. Read threads on aftermaket wires going bad fast. Some arching to the block on first day. All that had issues went to cheapies and didnt have any issues (Im one of them).

OP NGK TR55's... Nothing else.

Ok, haven't had any problems like that before but I'll take your word for it, I'll hold onto my old wires just incase.

thx for the heads up

MSD wires for LSx's are highly recommended on this forum. Many of threads with positive reviews. I've had them for 5 years with 0 problems.

Works for some, not for others. Ive been running cheapies for quite awhile and they have been great. And if I have any problems, I can get a new set free. I just have read lots of people having issues, and I decided to stay away. Take it how you will, but at least keep the stockers laying around just incase.

9 1/2 years with my 427ci....$37.00 Advance Auto or Pepboys wires are just as good as ANY aftermarket wire set. Until you start making 650 RWHP++, there's not a wire out there will give you a gain in performance or MPG, or anything else.........over factory stock wires or the $37.00 auto parts store specials.

They are identical except for the gap from the factory. TR-5 is at 0.040" and TR-55 is at 0.060" out of the box. I guess you could gap either one to 0.050" ... as a +/- 0.010" change in gap is the max that NGK Tech Dept recommends.

Here's my dilemma. I've got a 2002 Z06 with the LS6. Owner's manual says to use ACDeclo Platinum 41-947, which are at 0.060" gap. GM came out with a Service Bulletin (03D-J-171, dated Dec 12, 2003) that said new spark plugs have been released for the 1997-2004 Vette (LS1/LS6), which are ACDelco Iridium 41-985, and to gap at 0.040" due to the new iridium tip.

Seems everyone likes the NGK TR-55 spark plug. These come with a 0.060" gap which is what the original plug gap spec was for the OEM platinum plugs in my LS6.

You guys think it would be OK to run the TR-55 at 0.060", or should I reduce the gap to 0.050"?

Does the tip design have a bearing on the gap that should be used? - sounds like it. I've also heard that a larger gap makes the coils work harder and could shorten their life span - any truth to that?

At 75K I replaced my stockers with the same. I have stock wires too (not originals-took my brothers 2002 wires when he fell for the MSD's). I like changing them as little as possible on these vehicles. Never had a problem. I have a 104K and changed my plugs once in 13 years. She'll out start anyone! I challenge you all! Don't even start with that horsepower bolognese sauce crappola! lol!

i threw in a set of Delco Platinums gapped at .040 when i did bolt ons, they did great....after the cam install i left them in while my car was dyno tuned....since then i've thrown in two different sets of tr55's, they've both been great too.....one set was gapped at .055, the latest gapped at .050......seems like the .050 runs a little stronger, but it may just be in my head......and i used the same set of MSD wires on all of them

Yeah, I have a set that has been in the LS1 for 76,000 miles.
Just went through smog check perfect.
Mileage for a combined city / highway run (checking a new Panhard bar installation) came out to 26.75 MPG with AC on all the time.
That was a 100 mile run.
M6 tranny, Royal Purple in the motor.
