Default Cracked water pump?

I was pulling out in traffic the other day and ran the car up threw a few gears. At the next light I noticed smoke from the hood. I immediately looked at my gauges and all was good except my volt gauge was in really low in the yellow. The light changed and I go to pull into the parking lot and after about 300ft the volt gauge jumps up to normal. I pull in and smoke is rolling out, and when I lift the hood it's pouring from behind the water pump. When I put water in it, even with the car shut off it just comes out from behind the pump. I really haven't had the chance to get a good look at it yet, but does this sound like anything anyone's ran across? Car runs fine, it will just start to over heat if I let it run sitting still.

cracked pump...that'll be a first. Never heard of that, but I guess it can crack like anything else.

What was that problem that someone had with their car a couple of weeks ago that most of us had never heard of?

I don't know that's it. Just thought I'd ask. I'll post up when I find out what it was.

The fact that you had a problem (alternator) with another belt driven accesory might also point to the pump seizing up. You may also check your belt to make sure it didn't get burned up.

His impeller shaft froze and it wouldn't spin....so his serpentine belts would just slide across the frozen water pump pulley and melt and fly apart.

Wow. So I guess this is the month for strange, new water pump problems.

How's it going '408!
