What Spark plugs go well with the LS1?? Hey everyone,
I'm wanting to change the spark plugs in my '01 Formula and thinking about the E3 Spark plugs. But wanted to get some opinions on what you all are using and what you recommend? Anyone else try the E3 spark plugs and get positive results? I'm sure most of it is in our heads but still worth talking about. Thanks

Hey everyone,

You cannot get better performance than NGK TR55 or TR5 plugs will give you. They are good to 650+ RWHP N/A built engines or bone stock.
Gap them to .050 with a gap tool. Do not trust the gap they come with, gap them yourself to make sure.

I'm planning on changing my spark plugs tomorrow also; I've heard nothing but good things about NGK TR55's here at ls1tech... and I've been searching through recommendations for about a solid week now haha.
Quick question, I don't mean to thread hijack but for those that are getting the NGK TR55's do y'all have a part# for the exact one y'all are getting? I have no clue on which one to choose between the G-Power or V-power or any other style they have... just heard good things about the platnium series. Thanks guys

I am also a firm believer in the TR55's, especially with the deal that WS6store offers where you can get the MSD wire's with them for only $75, you just can't beat that.

Also, seems like it's going to be a pain in the @ss to change the plugs since the motor is halfway under the dash. Any good tips or thread links to a "how to"? Later.

That has everything you need, as far as the instructions for changing plugs.
+1 on TR55's @ .50... And screw the iridium plugs, they're not worth it. Good old copper works just fine.

OK most are saying that iridium are just a waste of money. However, Autozone says that Iridium is what the car uses from the factory. I guess it doesn't matter though. Thanks for the help.

I change my plugs every 25,000 miles. Takes about 45 minutes and its pretty easy with my LT's and costs $17.00 each change.
And after I realized spark plugs only need to be hand tight + a tiny little snug with the ratchet my plugs come right out easy as pie with very little effort........makes the job a breeze to do.

It's easier to blow the tips off of iridium when you're modified, and they're more expensive.

Ouch..such language you must be very Young! The OP said nothing about being modified, and from his question I thought he lacked experience also. I do mine every 100,000 miles so I have done mine 3 times since 1997 and all 3 times it was difficult. I'm just trying to save a Newby some heartache.

1) there was a reason platinum and iridium plugs were developed. A lot of money went into doing that, and they didn't do it just to sell different spark plugs. Iridium plugs are far superior to normal copper plugs in every conceivable way except price. They are more expensive. GM put them in the LS1's because it's a pain to change them.
2) Some quick mathmagics. If you change your plugs every 10k-25k miles and use copper plugs then you'd be paying less using iridium plugs that have a service life in excess of 75k! Not to mention the labor involved no matter how short or easy.
