Default whining noise

I have a 99 Pontiac Trans am that I just got while stationed in AK. It has 142k miles and IM loving the car. I just have a generic question. When I crank the car it makes a whining noise at idle then it stops after awhile. The car runs fine IM just curious. IM new to the car.

You're probably hearing the AIR pump running, it runs for a minute or two if even that on first startup. Nothing to worry about at all

Welcome. What state are you in? You could take both out depending on smog regulations where you live

Yeah check your accessories. Mine will do it some days. Its my power steering pump pulley. (The first wheel you see on the drivers side with the hood open)

It could be anything from an idler pulley (most common), to your alternator, to your ps pump, etc.. Im just giving you something easy to check, and easy to rule out.
