Default Help me ID an oil leak

Did an oil change and it started leaking oil about an hour later. Thought it was the filter, but I've changed it for another and it's done up correctly.

The oil appears to be around the filter/bell housing area. All looks dry from under the hood as far as I can see. Thinking maybe rear crank seal??

If it is the rear crank seal, is there a guide on changing it?

Did you buy the correct filter? If it didnt start leaking til after oil change.. It could only be one of two things.. drain plug or filter.. IMO

otherwise. You would have to drp transmission to check and see if rear seal is leaking. I cannot imagine that is the issue tho.

I've posted this a couple time before... check the torque on the bolts around there that go into the rear cover, they're smaller than the regular pan bolts.

Could the old gasket have come off the filter and still be seated up on the engine?

That would seem logical yes. However this is the 2nd filter I've tried (bought from a different supplier and a different make). Just to make sure.

The plug is tight and doesn't appear to be leaking.

I have the same leak.

Have you changed your oil pressure sending unit, or dropped the trans, or installed header recently?

my oil comes down both sides of the motor, right around the back, and has little droplets right there.

I know i broke my sending unit when i was dropping the trans, and its leaked even after reinstalling it (i think i pinched the seal)

Start it up, get under the car, and see where it's leaking from.

That's my guess as well.

kinda what ferocity said, i have done this in the past...drive to the car wash, have somebody follow you with a second car, park the car there, go get some food or something, come back when the engine is cool and crawl under the car and spray ALOT of degreaser around the motor/trans and let it sit the recommended time and then take it through the car wash with the undercarriage sprayers, park the car again and let it dry with the engine off, come back again and start the engine and see where its leaking from....you can do this at home too while its on jackstands and a garden hose, i just prefer the high pressure jets...
