high pitched whine coming from engine bay
This started a while ago but since I don't really drive the car alot I never really bothered with looking into it. I don't think it's something serious as the car still drives great, has lots of power, great mpg, a/c blows ice cold and car handles very well still.
However I have this really high pitched whine noise almost like I'm running a procharger. Kinda sounds like its in passenger side area of the engine bay. It will increase with rpms until I can't really hear it anymore because my TD"s dround out the sound. It sorta seems like it gets slightly louder when a/c gets turned on however hard to tell with my exhaust.
Car has 80K on it and serpentine and a/c belts were replaced 6/05/07 with 68,581 miles. So only about 11K on them.
Nothing has been done to the car in couple years and this only started this year.
Any ideas what this could be???

Well I left house early to go work and did not make any whine noises. I stopped and got some gas and as I'm leaving its making that noise again.

10-4 I was going to suggest AC clutch needs spacing. Most times I've had pulleys go I was able to remove the belt and diagnose by free spinning. You can feel a difference and you should be able to faintly hear a noise. Otherwise I'd get a stethoscope and start prodding around suspected areas.

nope. I pulled all that crap out years ago (i know what your talking about). It is something that just recently started this year.
It sounds like its right on the passenger side engine bay area. Just hard to tell with my loud exhaust.

I guess you don't live in California, then?
If the exhaust is loud, I'd recommend a mechanic's stethoscope. It's a small $5-10 investment and should expose the noisy part just by touching the probe to the offending component. I can't even begin to add up how many times I've used mine over the years.
If all the emissions accessories are out of the car, it must be a rotating part. Finding it now will hopefully save you from a break-down or more serious issue later on.

Could it be a vacuum hose?? Either way I'm gonna check everything you guys are mentioning.

I just read in the Helms manual for our cars that our STOCK alternator (they call it a generator) is supposed to, or at least it is normal for it to, make some whine like noises, even when it is functioning perfectly.
But you've mentioned that this just started recently??
