Default Oxygen Sensor Confusion

So after 222K miles, my passenger side upstream O2 sensor has given up the ghost. I'm getting SES codes; P0151 & P1153 with stock exhaust manifolds and cats. I did a little bit of research to try to figure out the best replacement sensors to buy and now I'm confused.

Rock auto lists four different AC DELCO part numbers for the sensors:
AFS98 - Left upstream GM original equipment.
AFS123 - Right upstream GM original equipment.
2131380 - Left upstream AC DELCO professional.
2132873 - right upstream AC DELCO professional.

From my experience, AC DELCO's professional line of parts tends to be higher quality. But the base part numbers are listed as GM original eqiupment. To make matters more confusing I've read several threads on here that say that the base AC DELCO part numbers AFS98 & AFS123 are interchanged with DENSO sensors, so you might as well save your money and buy the DENSO sensor, because you're getting the same part.

Does anyone know what the correct OEM part number is?

You can do it the right (expensive) way.

Or, you can buy the cheapest 1-wire (or 2, 3, or 4 wire sensor) you can find and use that instead. All narrowbands use the same technology and all of them will work the same way. I can literally walk into any auto part store and without checking PN;s pick you the cheapest $17 or $4 sensor with any number of wires (usually 1-4) and it will work so long as you get the signal wire correctly wired into the ECU. That said, this disclaimer: this is the poor mans way.

Money isn't really the issue. I'm extremely impressed with my OEM sensors lasting over 200K miles and I would like to go back with OEM. I'm just not sure what part number to buy.

You want part numbers #19178928 and #19178924. those are the GM OEM I could locate for driver and passenger pre-cat.

Those are the alternate part numbers for the AC DELCO AFS98 & AFS123 sensors. I guess I'll give those a try. Thanks for the help man.

Most likely GM is just using an unbranded part then or the actual OEM part was discontinued. The denso or AC delco's are likely your best bet. Bosch are pretty decent too, but you are figuring name into the cost.

AC Delco 02 sensors are not being made anymore....its been almost 8 years. It is possible though that a few are laying around on shelves still that you might find.....

If you go to any GM dealer and buy 02 sensors you will be handed an AC Delco box with Denso 02 sensors inside. Denso 02 sensors became the choice of GM to replace the AC Delco sensors.

Thanks for the info. I replaced the sensors. Now the codes are gone and the car is running well. I'm glad it was an easy fix.

Yea man....failing or failed 02 sensors cause a list of nightmare symptoms like the car is falling apart.....but what an easy 5 minute fix it is.
