Default Oil Pressure Switch replacement - now high pressure readings

replacing the AC compressor on a 2002 bird with the V6 and we accidentally broke the oil pressure switch. broke it where the plastic meets the metal body. see attached pic.

replaced it with a new Duralast Oil Pressure Switch and the pressure reads 95-100 cold start and even when at operating temp.

before change it would read 70 at cold start and run close to 55-60 at operating temp.

think I just got a bad switch? should I replace it? is it safe to drive?

appreciate any insight.

thanks

Verify with mechanical gauge. Then determine if current switch is bad.

If it was OK before, then I ASSUME you would be fine to drive. But be aware you are driving without a proper reading. Drive at your own risk.

Pick up a cheap pressure gauge from Harbor freight. It comes with assorted brass fittings of different sizes. It's always good to have one on hand as a diagnostic tool.

Also get a mechanical fuel pressure gauge. Both can be had for around $30 each.

I bought these:

Not 100% about a V6, but MOST sensors will be 1/8" NPT. The end of the oil pressure gauge I believe has a male 1/8" NPT crimped on the the rubber line. So you can simply screw it into the block.

That's your problem. Duralast make the worst sensors. Buy an AC Delco.

4th of July - Autozone - limited options. I will still check mechanically and O'riellys has an AC Delco - a bit more but I am sure worth it

These are notorious for being bad out of the box. I went through the same issue a while back. Things are much better with the AC Delco sensor.

I'm surprised you seem to have survived the experience so wonderfully. I totally sliced my arms up on the screws sticking down from the cowl. It looked like I stuck my arms down a garbage disposal. This part is not a fun one to replace... https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...ding-unit.html

I'm sorry you have to do it again.

dont forget I have the V6 - the Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch is right above the oil filter and sticks out like a sore thumb. Part #7 on the diagram
