Question Fans won't work, what could be the problem?

I have heard a lot of people say that the relays for the fans on the LT1 cars tend to go bad once in a while. I'm kind hoping this is the problem since relays are cheap and aneasy fix, How many relays are their and where are they located under the hood? Also what procedure would I take in order to check to see if these relays are working? Last thing, if the relays are good then what other problems should I look for?

Thanks

the relays are under the engine bay fuse panel on the drivers front. just get two other relays and plug them in see if they are working then. if not check the fuses. actually check the fuses first. if this does not fix the problem, report back and ill tell you how to check to make sure the wires are good. youll need a test light for that. also remember that your fans from the factory will nt come on til approx 220*and 230* respectively. one other thign to try. turn you ac on. if the fan on the pass side i believe doesnt come on then id say fuse or relay is the culprit

One of those fans should run constantly the other comes on at 220 if I am not mistaken, correct?

I jus thought of something, you see I have a gutted cat and my air pump never shuts off and it kept on blowing fuses. Then the fuses stopped blowing but that was because the connector to the air pump melted and now my fans won't work. I remember reading on another board the fans get their power through this connector, is this true?

On my 97 their was a recall for the air pump. I had my fans just stop working on day and it kept blowing the underhood fuse. I then I took it in to the dealership and they replaced the air pump and the fuse that was blown for free since it was under recall. Thats the only work I'd ever let a dealership do on my car.

While the fan switch covers the problem, still doesnt explain why they werent comming on before.

Very well could be a bad temp sendor in the h20 pump. If its not reading right, ECM will never turn the fans on. You would never know the difference unless you had a scan tool on it. The gauge in car reads from a different sender. If the one in the pump is bad = makes for some crappy performance.
