Default Should I be worried?

I have a 2002 Z28 6-speed with 29,000 miles on it.I changed the oil today and noticed a small amount of metal on the drain plug.I wiped the end of the plug on my black work gloves I was wearing and it almost looked like I drew on them with a silver crayon. Is this normal?

Normal? No... How long has it been since your last one?

I had maybe a small piece or two, but nothing like a silver crayon.

Not good.. Try a compression test?

A friend had one of rocker arm bearings go on him before and something similar..

Are you still under warranty?

Shutout, is it really fine? I can barely feel anything when I rub it between my fingers. It's almost like a powder. Mine has always done it, from the first oil change.

99Zeod and Shutout, maybe you should get an oil analysis done. From what I've read an oil analysis will tell you what is happening internally before any serious damage is done. The kits are free I believe and it costs something like $20 bucks, I forget the web site though.

That is normal wear-n-tear debris. The magnetic drain plug is supposed to attract that fine dust. It's big pieces & needle bearings you need to worry about. Or if you had a 1/4" layer....

I noticed the same thing as well when I changed my oil a couple weeks ago. I've owned the car for the last 20,000 miles and had never wiped the end of the oil plug until this last time. There was a small amount of that silver-looking gunk on the end of the plug... just barely covered the tip of it but smeared pretty well when I rubbed it between my fingers I wasn't too worried about it.

I have seen it quite a few times. I am pretty sure it is normal wear. It's looks and feels kind of like anti-sieze right? (but it is not of course)

I've gotten the same very fine silver debris on my magnet before. I'm not worried yet.

Yup, that's exactly what it reminded me of. Has the same texture and everything.

Yep. I wouldn't worry about it. Things inside the engine wear, it is just one of those things.

Dropped my car off today at the dealer. On the way in I stopped one of their mechanics and told him about my car. He said that it was just normal wear and tear.I guess I am a little paranoid.
