Default Check out the inside of my oil cap

i checked my oil yesterday and it was almost a quart low, leaks around the back of the intake like every other lt1. i took off the cap and put a 1/2 qt in and looked at the inside of the cap it it had brown almost sludge like gunk in it. the car is only driven maybe once a week and i am thinking maybe just moisture under the cap. the oil was changed at work back in nov. so i didnt see the cap and the tech didnt say anything to me about it so not sure if it was there then or not. here is a pic and tell me what you think.

What kind of oil are you using? Some oils like Quaker State are known for thier "sludge" buildups. Also, I follow the 3 month, 3k mile saying. To me, that oil is just about done...unless is M1 or something, then its cool.

last couple of oil changes have been with kendall because that is what we carry at work. the actual color of the oil on the stick was not bad at all. looked like oil after about 1500-2000mi of everyday driving but did have a pretty strong gas aroma so it will be changed this weekend if weather permits. other than kendall it has had castrol run through it since 19000mi.

Its kinda hard to see the picture, but LT1's are notorious for collecting moisture in the caps. It will look like someone mixed chocolate milk w/ it.

yeah they are, and especially in the hose that runs from the pass valve cover to the TB. It's the coldest place the oil in the engine travels so it usually builds up there. How long is the trip to your work everyday?

This is normal for LT1's. And no, the rest of the inside of your engine is probably not covered with that stuff. As stated above, it ends up on the cap because it's cool there (relatively speaking). If you have valve cover breathers, it'd end up there too.

Seems normal for a daily driver. Mine usually clears up after a few days...but I drive 60 miles a day

My cars get driven 30 miles almost every time they are started and they both do that too some degree, no worries unless the oil on the dipstick starts too look similar.
