Try unpluging the sender. The light will useally go out if you have a bad coolant level sender.

Are you sure you unplugged the right sensor? that sensor went bad on both my car and my friends 97 ws6, unplugged it and it went away, its on the driverside of the radiator facing the motor, i had to use a flat head to pry his off because his engine bay is real tight.

If you unplug the sensor while the motor is running the light will stay on. First unplug the sensor then turn on the engine the light should remain off. If its off, then proceed to purchase part#10096163. Can you tell I replaced mine yesterday ? Cost me $55 from a dealer.

P.S...Its on the passenger side of the radiator if your looking at the motor. Not the drivers side.

From my experience (of having to change several on an LT1), that's your first indication that your water pump is gone/going.

gmpartsdirect has it for $25. But you probably would have to wait 2 weeks, as I did on some AIR gaskets.
