Default newbie oil change

Changing the oil for the first time in my 98 Firebird, I've changed oil in other cars before but just wondering any specifics about the ls1s I need to know.

Can I run the car up on some ramps or should I jack it up

Also should I change it warm or cold

How much will it take (using mobile 1 5w-30 synthetic)

Should I put a certain amount in, run the car for a few minutes, then put the rest in?

Thanks for any tips, I'm sure it's a simple question, just not wanting to mess anything up

i just ride on a small ramp then to the real ramp (lowerd car so tha jack wont fit and the ramp hits the nose of the car) just by running the car to get it up gets the oil hot enough to make it thin enough to drain out almost all of it, the oil is 5.5 quarts, make sure to fill up the oil filter before instaling it, and of course put alil old oil on the seal to keep it from stickin, other than that it's all basicaly the same!

A pair of ramps is enough.
Also should I change it warm or cold
Warm is best

I do 6 quarts and use the longer filter (k&n 2006)
Should I put a certain amount in, run the car for a few minutes, then put the rest in?
I primed the filter with half a quart then installed the filter. Next I put in the rest of the 5.5 quarts.

If your car isn't lowered, you can use a set of rhino ramps (available at wal mart)
Change it when the oil is warm
6 quarts will be enough get the longer filter (delco gold, wix mobile 1, or K&N are good filters stay away from Fram oil filters)
Prime the filter with 1/2 quart, wipe a little oil on the seal, and spin it on, add the rest to the engine, start car check for leaks
Get the 5 quart jug @ walmart, and one one quart (to pour into the filter)

I don't like ramps so I jack it up and use jackstands.

I use the long K&N filter and 6 qts.

I fill my filter up with oil before I install it. I let it soak in and keep filling it until it won't accept any more. Install the filter and put all the rest in the car.

That's about it. Just another oil change.
