Default Pink fluid leaking near the alternator

Just looked under my car today and saw some pink fluid leaking from near the alternator. There is this pan like thing and it was leaking from the gasket or w/e.

I think that pink fluid is coolant, right?

To change that gasket I'd have to take half the car apart

Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated.

thanks

OP

Orange fluid is coolant in 98+ cars. Red is either steering or transmission. Hope that helps.

Take a pic and post it. It's tough to tell from your description.

My coolant is actually the closest color of the fluid to the one that's leaking. It's nowhere close to the tranny, so it can't be it and steering fluid is different from this one.

This fluid is very liquidy, water-like.

My father took a look at it and he's pretty sure it's my water pump leaking. He has a chevy truck and has changes a lot of things on it, so I'd trust him.

Here is the picture. And I was wrong about it leaking out of the pan. That pan is just an end of the oil pan and it can't be leaking pink fluid.

Here is another picture that I just took.

It's definitely the coolant leaking, I just not need to find out where it's leaking from. Hopefully it's the just water pump like my dad said.

Where can I get that performance electric water pump? and is it worth it?

How can I see if it's my water pump or not? I tried looking but our motors are so damn busy! Do I need to take anything off to see my water pump?

Go to Autozone and pick up a brand new one for $ 130 with the gaskets. Have some RTV on hand, have at it. Pretty simple job.

It usually leaks from behind the pulley so you're not going to see it.

Would bet the ranch on you needing a new WP.

As you havea 2000, it probably has the right miles for the WP to go, they almost all do.

Actually my car only has 42k mi on it and I know that stat was replaced by a previous owner.

I'm probably gonna get the car on the lift or give it to someone to take a look at it and tell me what exactly is wrong with it. If it's just a hose or a stat then I'll do it myself.

I had the same problem with mine. Was able to tell exactly where the coolant was coming from. If you are standing in front of the bay the right hand coolant passage was leaking, only question was if it was the pump or the gasket. Rather than taking the chance of just replacing the gaskets only to have it leak again I just did the whole thing. (like they said about 130ish) It only ended up being the gasket was blown but I have better peice of mind with a new pump. From the look of those pictures I am almost 100% postive that you are in the same boat. I would suggest to go a head and replace the pump and gaskets, and if it turns out that the pump is still good then you always got an extra... Plus anyone with minor mech. skills can change it out and have it running again in about a hour or so.. Unless you are really trying to get every last bit of HP out of your stock short block I wouldn't go with the electric WP. If you got the money and really really want that 10 to 15 extra HP ( I think that's what they claim) then go for it.... Everyday driver the belt pump is plenty good
