good idea. will be doing that tomorrow. Would the underdrive pulley have anything to with the volts going up?

i am not sure about the ud pulley...i cant see how that would make the regulator in the alt go bad...but that is most likely the cause...a faulty regulator in the alternator.

Is there a regulator that is not internal to the alternator?

1. I have high voltage. Am using the standard low wattage GM alternator. How bad is this for the car?

2. What is the best replacement? I am thinking about going to a higher wat GM replacement.

don't know how bad it is for our cars but it can't be good. seems like it is taking away power from me. don't know if it can lead to other major damages but don't want to take the risk

AC Delco is probably the best way to go still. I know people replacing advanced, autozone ect alternators left and right.

Sounds like the reg did go out. Replace it soon.

what do you mean whats my deal? i hope that is not a bad thing.

A couple of things that i remember happening in my sisters car is that the monsoon system would start to make engine whine in the speakers.

If you have a monsoon system and the voltage is reading 16+ volts start the car, leave the radio on but turn the volume all the way down. drive around and listen for a whistle like sound(rpm related) coming from the speakers. this is another thing that i noticed from that car. other than that just keep an eye on the voltage guage cause i know for sure that it caused her battery to go out, then it did the same with the new battery and eventually found out the alternator was bad.

sorry I dind't explain myself, you said you were trying to let everyone know about your deal- im taking it was alternator related, which it was. it wasn't a bad thing.

I can't figure out why my car is running normal now, its really weird.
