Default Oil!

Everytime I try the "search" to find threads relating to this It says "page cannot be displayed" So I figured I'd just post a new thread and get some quick responses.. sorry.. I bought a 1998 z28 LS1 camaro..... I have no clue what kind of oil the previous owner ran in it (synthetic -vs- straight weight) So on my first oil change I just ran Mobil 1 5W30 straight... What would you guys recommend I do for my 2nd oil change.. I don't know if I should stick with straight or go synthetic.. Motor has 93k miles on it...

Thanks!

Matt

Mobil 1 5w30 is fine, but when it starts to get hot outside like summer I go with Mobil 1 10w30.

Peace,
Craig.

I'd go synthetic. It's better for the engine.

synthetic hands down. search for the best oil, and there is a long thread with a lot of good info on different oils.

My car's previous owner had it serviced at IffyLube so I doubt it had synthetic. I went with blended this time because I heard If you go straight to synthetic you might spring some leaks. If all goes well I'll use Mobil1 on the next change and there after.

"Might spring some leaks?" WTF?

No leaks buddy. I use only Mobil 1 10W30 in my daily driver T/A and no problems here. You're not going to get a leak from synthetic oil.

Peace,
Craig.

SEARCH!!!

You can't compare "straight weight oil vs synthetic". They are not mutually exclusive. What you are thinking of is comparing regular dino oil to synthetic.

Go synthetic.

Yeah, honestly, often I'm craving some info and the search button completely doesn't work. Either takes forever to load and I give up, or I get "Page Cannot be Displayed" or some other message that says there was a problem and the admin has been notified. Then I hate to ask the question because I know the search button ***** will be out in full force for re-asking a posted question. It's annoying.

Anyway, when you get it to work do a few searches on German Castrol. It's been discussed here repeatedly, and is widely regarded as one of the best oils for the LS1. There's actually a few really intriguing analysis's of it used for 6,000-12,000 miles that show it has virtually not broken down at all. Mobil-1 and Amsoil have faithful followings (most of the latter just want to sell it to you though, lol)....but do some research when the button works and you'll see the light. I was in your shoes about 6 months ago.
