after a wreck, what airbags components need to be replaced?

I'll look this up at work for you today for sure......
I mitchells Ultramate it usually lists the following componants
front crash sensors
airbag modules
clock spring
ecm (electric control module)
-but it is vehicle specific
I'll post that later on today

• Deployed air bag modules
• Front end discriminating sensor1
• Sensing & Diagnostic Module (SDM)
• Sensors in area of accident damage
• Seat belts in use at time of air bag deployxment
Thats Manufacturer Suggestion

The clockspring. Yes, you might be right on that one. A multimeter would reveal internal damage. A physical inspection should be done on the wiring coming out of the top of the clockspring due to the heat produced by the sodium hydroxide reaction in the air bag. The airbag gets really hot and shouldn't be touched for 30 minutes. The airbag wiring shouldn't be touched for 10 seconds after you turn off the ignition or it is deployed intentionally.
All you should have to replace are the airbags and the windshield. The crash sensor is driven off a solid state device that reads acceleration, right? Mine still works.
Airbags can be purchased pretty cheap used (but not deployed) but it is illegal in some states. Any wiring that is damaged should be replaced or repaired with a special repair kit OR you will really have to make sure the wire won't corrode over time and has a good connection.
ON THE REMOVAL OF A DEPLOYED AIRBAG
Don't go into an airport or secure building right after you do that. If you do. hehe. Surprise.

Yeah I believe all vehicles after 1996 (could be 94 though) had the airbag sensors relocated to the center of the car, in the tranny hump area, I believe it measures if stress is being applied there.
