Default Low Oil light....oil consumption??

Its right at about 3000 miles since last oil change. My LOW OIL light come on...is this about right for oil consumption? I used Castrol Syntec 5w-40 oil at last oil change. This time I think im going with the German Castrol Syntec 0w-30. How many qts low am I when LOW OIL light comes on?? This just doesnt seem right to me. Thanks in advance guys!

you are about 2.2 qts low. Go to a dealership and ask for the updated pcv valve. It is a fixed oraface pcv. ill get the part number for you. I had some oil consumption before i did this, now i dont have any

My Vette consumes oil like that too. It don't consume as much as yours, but its always about 1 quart low when it comes time for an oil change. Its relatively normal for these motors to consume oil, however you need to keep tabs on the amount.

Yours consumes more than I think it should. I would also recommend the pcv upgrade!

I have been considering an oil catch can too since oil seems to pool in my intake.

I have this same problem as well, it does it when I use castrol syntec but when I used mobil 1 the light didn't come on. The part number for the PCV valve would be very helpful. The car really goes down 2 quarts before the light comes on?

the part number is 12572717. go to any new chevy dealership parts dept and give it to them. they should have them in stock. This was GMs fix for a lot of cars complaining about oil consumption. but, it worked for me

If you want to do a catch can really cheap, my buddy went to home depot and bought a glass oil/water seperator for an air compressor. you have to get two brass fittings to connect it to the pcv hose. He had a lot of oil pooling up in the intake, but after he did this, his intake stayed really clean. All the parts cost less than $30 and about 30min install. Also, it didnt look homemade, which i know is really important to a lot of people

Like stated earlier your motor is 2 quarts down when that light comes on.. Do not feel to bad mine comes on every 500 miles! Yep you guessed it I am in the market for a new motor! My rings are shot 20% leakdown on #5 cylinder..

Keep a close eye on that, the PCV update will help as well as the catch can.. SOP for these cars only seems to be about 1 quart every 3k

Lol, I had this happen to me one time. It was a bad low oil sending unit. I replaced it, and all was good. Before you go freaking out about ****, check your oil level. If its down, obviously take the necessary steps. However, if its not, which I doubt it is because I've never seen an LS1 use THAT much oil in 3000 miles, I would look at replacing the sender.
