well if its from the top of the motor then it should sound like a loud tick, a different tick from the fuel injectors you should be able to tell the difference. have you went over 6500 rpms or missed a shift really bad????

Yah thats exactlly what it sounds like Tick Tick tick Cant really hear it until abot 1200 rpm but it gets faster and louder as the rpms go up. Its been doing this since it was cold(real cold ) about a year ago ,even had a problem keeping it running , dont remember missing a shift around that time though. How hard is this to fix?

Are you having any ses codes.Usually when you have a bent pushrod you'll have misfire codes.Especially if its loud enough to hear.It could be rockers or lifters as well.Do you have any mods done to your car or is it stock? How many miles?

If its the pushrods, its not to bad.Pull the covers, pull the rockers, then the pushrods.Put in new and torque the rockers back on.I believe there is a write-up on ls1howto.com.

Is there any way to tell if this is the problem without taking it apart, or is that the only way.

You have to pull them to see if they're bent.Take out the pushrods and roll them on something flat.If they dont roll true then they are bent.

I bent one in my camaro... Listen closely @ idle put your ear near the valcve covers and listen. You should be able to tell.... have some one rev and hold an RPM and listen to it. Its a tick that sounds like its on par w/ the lope from a cam in a way.

just pull them all and replace them.

Yah it sounds like a "ticking howl" that gets louder and speeds up as the rpms do .Does that sound right ?

checking your pushrods is simple, so i would jsut do it...theres not many things that would cause this ticking.

do you know if the sound is from the drivers side??? if so it could be the black selinoid on the drivers side fuel rail, mine ticks like a mother on a cold start, but it seems like your problem could be a pushrod but check the spark plugs and wires first to see if one of those is loose and if they check out you can get someone to help you pull the valve covers off and check the rods, just roll them on a sheet of glass to see if they are straight or bent.

How hard is to pull the pushrods of the last cylinders? (#7 and #8)
Can I just remove the coils, the covers, the rockers and pull them out? It looks so tight under there...

How bad is to drive with bent pushrods? Is there something I could damage?

Very easy, but do yourself a favor and get things out of the way while working. It will make like, a lot easier! Your push rod also shouldn't be 2 inches! If it is...you got a problem (pulled one out one day and it had actually broke; one hell of a time getting the rest out).

What kind of things?

I'm asking about pushrods because I have a noise, especially during cold starts. Like a clack clack clack that goes with the engine speed.
I was thinking it may be a bearing of a connecting rod... but those usually sounds really bad. Much worst than now.
It starts from about 1000 rpm, after 3000 the noise is gone.
I hear that noise only when there's load on the engine: at idle and checking with a stethoscope I hear nothing, it's just under load.

I see no misfire, LTFT's B1/B2 are the same, no codes.. strange.
Is there a way to know it's a pushrod without removing parts?

Whats the black solenoid for ,anyone know? Also would it sound any different if it was a connecting rod bearing ,or maybe even a crank bearing? My sound does have a ticking but it also almost sounds like a howl. This noise has been going on for about 25-30000 miles its never better or worse and it doesnt seem to have an effect on the performance other than engine light staying on which im not even sure is because of it. The noise is driving me crazy
