Sounds like a bunch of dealership bullshit to me. I know guys who have chnged the spark plugs without taking anything apart at all.

Just takes some patience and the right tools

Here's a tip. Remove the coil packs. It's a straight shot to all the plugs without the coils in the way.

When you bolt the coil brackets back on, you don't have to put the rear bolts in... not needed. It will make ithings easier the next time you have to remove the coil packs. ~Joshua

I'd never go back to that dealership again. Either there trying to screw you, or they don't know what the hell they're doing. The plugs look hard to do (haven't had to yet) but unbolting the engine and lifting the body off is ridiculous.

Never ever ever take you car to a stealyourshit(dealership)

1. the "techs" that work at a dealership are generally right out of auto school since dealerships are the only ones that will hire them.

2. They will ALWAYS overcharge you

3. they will almost never do it right the first time.

plugs are not that hard to do yourself...
but if you just cant bring yourself to do it yourself, then find a F-body shop or performance shop around you that has a good rep and take your car there...

Again... NEVER ever ever take your car to a stealyourshit....

Go to Installuniversity.com
and go under LSX engines, they have a write up on plug changes. I did it that way. First time 9 hours, 2nd 5 hours and third time 3 hours.

Check out the other thread in this section polling whether to change them yourself...no way should you pay a dealership to do it as they will rape you. The http://www.installuniversity.com guide is excellent and should give you all the info you need. My first change took me about 6 hours before headers. I just changed them over the weekend after headers and it took less than 2 hours and was MUCH easier. Do it yourself and save the cash!

If you're down in my area give me a call... I'll do it much cheaper.

It's not nearly as hard as you may think, first time on this car took me a couple hours, like they said, un bolt the coil pack on the pass side.. the rear pass bolt was easy, just the plug socket and the ratchet handle pointing to the rear and it slipped out in a couple seconds.

ahahahahha...$800 bucks Like everyone else is saying....do it yourself, the first time will probably take you a good 4-5 hours though. I do all mine from the top....remove the coils and I move the AIR tube also for clearance.

If you do take it to a shop(other than a dealer)...sit there and watch the guy change ALL the plugs. Sometimes they'll leave the #8 plug in because it's the bitch plug...and they know you're not gonna check the plug. Actually...always watch anyone that is working on your car...whether they like it or not.

i just did plugs and wires yest. remove any emissions systems and definitely remove your coil packs makes it a hell of alot easier. I pulled the AIR off the 02 so it took longer than expected and i also cleaned the engine bay with the Coil packs removed... Took all of about 2.5 hours to remove all the ****, clean it and put it back. 10 minutes to pull the stockers out about 5 to put new ones in and hook up the wires...about 15 minutes to rebolt everything up and fire it up again. so about 1/2 hour if you can work quickly and focus and thats with the a/c still in the car.

those are nice but i've noticed that it sometimes is hard to get good enough leverage in these cars. i used a swivel socket/u-joint and a breaker bar to crack them loose for the far back ones... the fronts were ok w/ an extension. if you can get one of those flexing ractchets do so it may help then again it might not, but its well worth a try and it comes in handy w/ header bolts if you plan to pull those off ever. Just think before you start doing, i know several people who have broken their plugs putting them in... not good at all! Be sure to use Anti-seize on the threads, and di-electric grease on the wires. helps with install and removal ALOT! Teka your time and plan it out start in the back once you remove your wires and everything in your way.

2 hours here, and I changed the header gaskets at the same time.

You do not have to remove the coil packs.

the first time i did it, it took almost 4 hours. taking the coil packs off help alot with the rear one on the passenger side. i must say, it is alot easier if you have LTs and threw out the AIR and EGR though. and make sure to have alot of different socket extensions and swivels
