Squeal from engine

Squeal from engine I've had this squeal from my engine for the last 6 months. This is how I can describe it best. It seems to be coming from either the belt or one of the pulleys. It seems to only do it when I am at idle or about 1200 rpms at the highest. Once I get on it it'll stop. When I turn the car off, the engine stops but you can still here it for about 1 second. It does it whether the AC is on or off.
When me and my dad tried to diagnose exactly what was wrong with the car, my dad would pour water on the belt, it would stop, but would then keep going after about 5 seconds.
I don't want to have to deal with this anymore and if I don't find out what it is it's going to the dealer. I want to save that *** raping for later, when the engine goes out. Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

i hear ya on the *** rapeing,,,i have a P0480 code giving me some grief, and was quoted 4 to 6 hours, at $80.00 an hour from one of the local dealerships here in Peoria IL. Sucks.

What about the idler pulley? You mean it is cheap to replace or cheap to fix? If it involves replacing, where did you get yours, and if it involves fixing, what did you do (possible write-up)? Thanks for the replies.

Which pulley is the idler pulley. I have a chirp coming from my belt/pully area. I cant figure out what the name of the pulley is that I suspect is making the noise. My pulley is right by the power steering fill.
its right under the power steering pulley, little one squeeks alot you cant miss it lol. i had the same problem thought it was the belts nope it was that damn pulley

Verdad Gallardo i just used a GM part, but i have some conections, but it was only 20 bucks,,,and VERY easy to change all it takes is the relief on the tensioner, remove, replace, and put your belts back where they are to go...i think it took me 5 to 10 minuites to change. I dont know if there is a pricey "high performance" pulley out there for those, but dont think so, and if there is, im not sure what it would do over the stock application. The serp belt could also be your issue,,but maybe a lil more to replace, depends are where, and what your buying i guess. Anywho, hopfully you have already made your fix, and are out enjoying your sqeak free ride!
