you need the motor itself. the gear is only a fix for cars that have the stock gear that grinds

if you still hear the motor turning when you flip on the lights then you should be able to put a gear on it was it grinding before it completly died if not then i would assume you need a motor

Hey I'm sorry to bring back this thread but I'm now having the same problem i flip the **** on my 00 T/A and the passenger headlight comes up fine but the driver side just sits there. I looked and saw all of my lights are on (including the headlight itself) so I dont think its electrical and there is absolutely NO noise so I know its not the basic gear issue. The headlight just sits there not making any noise and doesnt move any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help

No I havent got to check the fuse yet and to be honest I'm not even sure how (I know I probably sound like a moron) but I definitely will try and check everything before I dish out $100
Oh and I didnt even see the post referring to the manual flip up switch that is good to know thanks. And here I thought I'd have to drive around winking at everyone

The fuse is in the main fuse box in the engine bay. Seems to me like it would make at least some noise if it was getting power, unless of course the electric motor itself is just seized.

Before you purchase that motor, you might want to make sure that the headlight arm, that extends from the motor to the headlight door is making contact with the stopping points on the car. If this arm isn't reaching the stopping points your headlight motor might be "confused" and will just sit there doing nothing. To solve this you can add a rubber hose or something along those terms to allow the arm and stopping points to make contact.

I agree.
I had the same problem with my drivers side motor. It kept getting worse over the summer.
It was to where I would turn the switch, the passenger side came up, but he driver side wouldn't. I had found that by turning the switch off, going and jiggle the driver side cover and it would come up after that.
After a while, this didn't even work. I ended up looking at the mechanism and seeing the adjustable stop near the top of the cover was adjusted to far in (no contact when closed) and that the plastic covered metal tab for the motor arm was bent back a little. This was probably allowing the motor to over rotate or something when it closed, confusing it somehow???
Anyway, I was able to get that side open and bend the tab back fowards. Works every time now!!
