Default Why is my car running hotter and is it bad?

I flushed my cooling system and replaced my thermostat last night because my heater was only blowing cold air. Now the heat works, but my car runs hot. It runs around 180 on the highway and it gets up to about 225 when idling for a few minutes. This is with 50 degree weather outside. The waterpump is only a few months old. After flushing I filled the radiator with 50/50 Dexcool & water. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

225 is a little high the 180 isnt though....it could be air as stated....bubbles tend to get in around the back of the block, also take the cap off and see if its circulating correctly

It id not circulating very well. It boils over pretty quickly out of the top of the radiator.

then you have a pump problem, or a clog in the system, this would be its over heating...i know that you just replaced these things, but sometimes even newer parts are crap....is it leaking at all?

hmm id have your radiator checked....if your certain about the pump and the flush....but like i said if its not cirulating that will cause it to heat up and that narrows down your options

I'm thinking that maybe I should try another flush. Last time I used the Preston Flush (little yellow bottle) and followed the instructions where you drain the radiator, fill with water and flush kit liquid, run engine for 10 minutes, drain again and fill with water, run engine for 10 minutes, drain again and fill w/ regular coolant and water. I am thinking that the actual hardware flush kit that is inserted into the heater hose and used with a garden hose to back flush may work better. Any ideas?

yea....build up or clogs will sometimes not be broken up by just the bottle stuff
