Well i just got done changing the filter out just before 40k and it looks like the stock one. Now i know there is a new one on there. I Jacked the car up and got under there. I even gave myself a tire rotation while i was doing this. The old one looks pretty dirty in there.

Well after reading this post I've decided I'm going to do this real soon. I'm checking out the www.installuniversity.com write-up and they disconnect the battery and pull the fuel pump fuse. Is this really necessary? I don't see how the fuel pump could start up if the keys are out of the ignition completely.

Or should I just do it for safety's sake? I never worried about it on any of my other cars (disconnecting the battery and fuse, that is).

I didnt disconnect the batttery or pull the fuse. That just seemed a little excessive.

Nope, not necessary at all. It's just silly, IMO. I wouldn't even consider wasting my time to do that. A fuel filter swap should go faster than an oil change. Easy stuff. No need to complicate it with extra steps like that.

i got a Napa gold filter. they make one of the best oil filters, why not a fuel filter, too? it was only like $13. it should only take 30 minutes to do. it may be kinda stuck like mine was. it's harder to get the new filter on than to get the old filter off, that's for sure. it took some fancy finger work to get the new one on. got a nice scrape on my arm on the concrete. i felt like a real man, what with the blood and all

just be prepared to get your arm covered in gas and smell like gasoline for 2 days. that's how you know you did it right. real men smell like gasoline anyway. if you come out of this smelling like downy, you should have probably spent the $13 on hand lotion, diet soda and fat free pringles.

btw, you SHOULD disconnect your negative battery cable. the fuse is NOT NECESSARY. you also definitely need to uncap your gas tank, and purging the shrader valve helps, too. it takes literally 3 seconds and leaves a spot of gas on a towel the size of a quarter.

No need to pull the battery cable. No need to pull the fuse. No need to purge the fuel rail unless the motor was recently running.

Real men leave the battery connected for things like this.

Changed the filter on Monday. Very little fuel came out, all I did was take off the gas cap on a low tank of fuel.
