Whines when reved ?
Whines when reved ? I put car in gear and take off and a slight whine is coming from
engine ! It sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid but it is not !
Could it be power steering pump even though I am driving straight at the time this occurs ? No indication of this , but could it be water pump or something else ? Thanks

Hey thanks for the replies ! I have not had the time to investigate because of overtime at work ! But the cars at home waiting for me to open the hood !
I do not know if I can detect it in garage with hood up yet or just when I start driving ! Thanks

Well I drove the car to work this morning ! First time in a while for it to be driven in the dark ! Came to a stop light and noticed dash and headlights slightly flashing ! Probably a good sign that alternator is going ! As far as replacement, Gm or after market ?

I'm having the same problem with my car. When I'm just coasting through town going through 2nd and 3rd gear I have a little "supercharger" sound coming from the engine bay. My car has also been dying/running a real low RPM on me lately when I start it up, and the lights are dimming the same time it dyes. Anyone know whats wrong with my car?

Ive got a whine..and Its not from the alternator..If Im standing outside the car with the hood up and rev the engine I dont hear it but when Im inside the cabin..and rev....there is a deffinate whine....

yea mine does the same exact thing?!?! I got a brand new alternator in the car, brand new belt, brand new belt tensioner, engine has 14k on it, power steering pump is fine fluid is fine in it also. I never figured out what it was its been doing it since i got the car before and after i replaced all these things.
Well I bought the adjustable tensioner and put on this time last year! No whining until a month ago! And I have not done anything to the car! I am stock, except for lid! Has to be a pulley or something running on the belt!
