Just bought my 01 TA what to servixe and change?
i'm new to the v-8 scene
I just bought my 01 TA from a dealership. car has 49,000 miles on it. The sticker on the window indicates that the dealership just changed the oil but i'm guessing they put in something generic. I know there 400 threads on whats the best oil to you but everyone says something diffrent for year.
The car is a 01 pontiac trans am ws6
So what engine oil should i use and weight
what oil filter
should i change trans fluid? and if so what brand and weight
Should i change the rear end fluid if so what brand.
Is there anything else i should change?
I wanna make it so everything lasts as long as it can.
i also drive the car hard i have a lead foot

years dont mean anything for oil...a ls1's a ls1's...the older ones however do have crappy oil pumps....this thread could turn into 5 pages of "oil advice".....just go with a 5w30....perf. castrol, make sure your pressures good, and you change it on time...a k&n oil filter actually isnt bad, ive used them....you wont have the tools to "flush" the tranny so go ahead and take it to a good tranny shop....the rearend doesnt need to be messed with yet.....you also wouldnt hurt by changing your plugs and wires, but considering youve never dealt with a ls1....have a friend who HAS...help you it can be a pain, throw in a k&n air filter also....you should be good...one last thing check your grease points on your suspension and handling...

I also have an 01 WS6. I use the AC Delco PF61 oil filter and 5W30 oil. Oil will be up to you since everybody has there own opinion.
If you don't want to get the trans flushed just pick up a filter kit, get one with rubber gskt, and I use the store brand ATF. Just don't use synthetic trans fluid.
A tune up is proabaly if ytour near future also. you may want to try the Seafoam clean before the tune up. Just a thought.

definatly change your spark plugs (i got my t'a from the dealership and when i changed my sparkplugs it was a good thing....they were shot.) for the spark plugs go with ngk tr55 gapped .050. warning though...my friend and i are both fairly expirenced car mechanics...it took us both 4 hours to change my sparkplugs the first time. start to finish. so dedicate a day to it. also oil filter, oil, k&n high flow filter (airlid) imo.

oil = any but use the right weight
oil filter = use ac delco (PF61) or wix or K/N (2006)
fuel filter = any
plugs = NGK TR55
plug wires = stock
coolant flush = valvoline gold stuff
tranny A4 = any ATF
M6= HONDA Z1 ATF
rearend = 75-90w (any)
JUST DRIVE IT AND MOD IT~!

There is no diff between the AC PF46 & the PF 61. The PF61 is just longer. It does not go below the oil pan on my car so I am going to use it. I have good oil press and all. I like the longer for more filtering ability. I use the PF 61 on all my LSx cars/trucks.
