how do you know if a coil pack has gone bad on 98 w/ls1. the car at low rpm i feels like it is firing on 4 cyc. put you give it more gas about 1/2 and it comes to life. and it does not do it all the time is what gets me, no check light on. but it contiues to **** me off. and my gas went from 190 to a tank to 120. any help would be nice. plugs were changed about a month ago

a simple way would be to put a timing light on and watch the flash for inconsistencies

^^^^ Timing light? On an LS1?

My advice would be some scanning software, to see if you have any stored codes and also check each cyliner for individual misfire reports and look for knock retard.

Moving to General Maintenance.....

im not saying check the timing or anything, but you can put the timing light on each plug wire and see if it isnt firing correctly. i have done this on a couple of other cars that had individual coil packs and it worked just to see if they arent firing correctly

it can, im not saying this is a precise way of doing it, but most people have a timing light laying around, and its quick.

just put it on each different spark plug wire and watch the light, if its bad enough you should be able to see the miss- i have on two seperate cars.

if you do notice a miss, then switch two coil packs and see if the miss moves or stays the same- if it moves with the switch then it can be the coil pack, if the miss stays, could be a spark plug

only does it here and there and when it does it, it is bad like it is running on 2 cyc. or somthing
