Damn they're $5 at the local junkyard, AND you get it same day.

My guess is that there is some downforce applied by that plastic piece, but nowhere near the amount from a "proper" splitter/airdam combo.

I just installed a used air dam today. $22 shipped from ebay. Unfortunaltely I cannot see the temps and how well it helps. My wire from the sensor is cut and I haven't replaced the pigtail yet. I'll get that fixed.

I can tell its way cooler after I brought it in for the night in the garage, however it is cold outside tonight..

Ok, I just installed the Air dam, and fixed my coolant temp sender. The car runs WAY cooler, exactly where it should. It looks like its around 180-195 consistently while driving. But when i idle for a long time, it certainly will get hot. I cannot hear any fans come on. Not sure if they are loud enough to be heard over the car while driving anyway. I parked at a Sonic and turned the car off, and while I was sitting I watched the gauge climb to the red. I need a manual fan switch or something. Recommendations?

How can you keep the fans running when you turn off the car?

The gauge is going to do whatever with the key off and engine not running.
Even with the key on engine off it will rise.
You should hear the high speed fan kick on, if the car is loud open the hood and let it run and see what happens.
